On a happier note. I did get my truck back today. Its like brand new. Sounds great. I drove my truck 15 miles no issues. Asked the service manager if I could listen to a new truck. Mine sounds just like new truck. So I will kept everyone posted on how the new engine holds up. Fingers crossed. I'm hoping the people or problem down in Tennessee engine plant have got things figured out.

Has anyone heard what the actual percentage of trucks this is affecting? How many different engine assembly stations do they have at the plant? Perhaps it’s a calibration issue during production by a specific set of robots? It’s strange no one has heard anything from the engineers or someone that actually works at the plant with info. I know on other forums it is quite common for employees who own a vehicle with problems to informally post what they hear on major issues. It’s just odd that there is not much info on what is actually causing such a catastrophic issue in essentially new trucks. Getting to the root of the problem should be Nissan’s top priority followed by giving a legitimate explanation to those Titan owners who have experienced it on what caused the problem and how they have solved it. This has to be a multi-million dollar problem for Nissan not to mention the PR hit the Titan is taking...Crazy...Fingers crossed my Titan, which has been great so far, will not be affected by this problem.

Did all your trucks come with a Nissan Mahle "Made in Japan" oil filter from the factory? This is what was installed on our truck. I thought the engine/tranny combo on our truck is from Japan. I will have to dig up the paperwork. In any case, at ~6K miles now and all is well.
So I was doing some checking online and saw our vk56vd was made exclusively in japan until 2015..... for the Infinity M56 and QX80...

Dechard started producing this same engine starting 2015 to supply the volume for new Titan... Some articles I read say Armada engine is from japan..some say dechard... maybe japan plant is focusing on other engines and 5.6 only made in usa now....

I feel like after dealing with the seat heater issue, I am going to get a boatload of pushback from the dealer, and the dealer is a friend of mine too. Just not looking forward to putting him in that position!
Hey Montyz, first of all YOU are NOT putting him in any position! For the amount we all pay for these NEW vehicles they should be damn near perfect. I've had my problems with Datsun and Nissan vehicles, most ( the earlier vehicles) I Broke them, no one else I broke them! The last two trucks ( the 2015 and the 2018) have been babied compared to what I used to do to my trucks. Nissan never really fixed the rear differential issues in the 1st gen and now engine issues are showing up in the 2nd gen. It is not your fault and it should be fixed with NO issue friend or not!
My Salesman here that I deal with is a good friend, we live 5 doors apart on the same street, he has a key to my house and me to his but the truck is under warranty and be dammed if it not fixed because we're friends.
Your friend should be going to bat to get the truck fixed for you with no issue!

Re: The Engine Knock Thread

So have had my truck back for a few days now after motor replacement. As I suspected, there would be some sort of noise, rattle or fitment issue.

When I put it in reverse there is a loud buzzing/rattle noise coming from the engine bay area. Sound like it's right on the other side of the firewall.

Back to the dealer I go again...

Re: The Engine Knock Thread

Oh that stinks. Did they drive it before returning it to you to make sure there were no issues. My dealer drove mine for like 100 miles before returning mine and I have had it for a little over a week now and no issues so far.

Re: The Engine Knock Thread

Is this happening to all Titans? My 2017 SV has almost 22,000 miles and no noises yet? I also never had any tranny problems, just a crappy radio, so far.

You just said it hasn't happened to yours so didn't you answer your own question?

They sold 50,500 Titans in just 2018, and 16,900 NV's so this problem sucks but overall just a guess it's less than 1% affected.

I prefer not using remote start or drive-thrus, both hurt your MPG's a lot & you shouldn't let your vehicle idle more that a minute or so especially unattended.

Re: The Engine Knock Thread

True, but I was wondering why some are affected and some aren't? I've read it's the #5 or 7 cylinder, but exactly what is going on with them. Oversize bores, bad crank, what's causing the knocking sound? Thanks.

Im sure a service bulletin will be out at some point to clear up the mystery...

Up until now the speculated causes discussed are mostly dealer techs just making educated guesses ...

I always wondered why the 2016 XD gas had the standard 5yr. 60k warranty then in 2017 they went to 5yr 100k... This issue may be the reason....

Looks like Nissan is working hard to take care of folks with this issue which is good....

They told me they took it for a long test drive after replacing the motor. And stated that they didn't notice anything was wrong. What I am noticing is that the buzzing rattling noise in Reverse seems to be intermittent. It doesn't do it all the time.

Kinda seems that way. My gen1 Titan had both rear axle failures, cracked manifolds, brake judder and various other things that went wrong with it. I ended up bringing Nissan to court on that one and was awarded $7000

Knock on wood...My 2018 Rogue is OK so far.

Re: The Engine Knock Thread

My dealer just called me. They said everything is fine with my truck (no knock).

Gonna go pick it up later today, guess I'll just keep driving it and count on the remaining 4 years of warranty to cover me if they're wrong.
