That article is purely sales driven by Amsoil, I personally wouldn't put any stock in it.

I am intrigued but unless there are numerous experiments to reinforce, or dispute, what's presented in the article I would hardly determine it as unquestioned "fact."

Thanks for the thread post, it's clearly got people talking.

They did the same thing when I took my Xd In for the trans software update. Serice advisor told me I had a free oil change I could redeem and I said ok.. Saw paperwork stated 5w-30.

Went and spoke to tech he said it wouldnt hurt anything and 5w-30 was the spec oil in these engines before 2016.... I went back to 0w-20 at next oil change... no harm was done nor any odd engine sounds nor did I note a change in gas mileage...

My thoughts on this is 5w-30 is Dino oil and cost the dealer less to give away on a freebie oil change, the 0w-20 is synthetic so that’s why it was used. Everything is based on greed and over a few dollars the dealer will spin the wheel and take the chance.

Most folks would rave at how wonderful their dealer was for giving them a free oil change....

Me.. I wonder how many miles of life I lost having the dino crap in there!!!!!

Re: No more 0w-20 for this guy

LOL, yep still pondering. But been using 0-20W since that's what is required per our manual until the warranty is expired.

https://www.titantalk.com/forums/eng...endations.html

Been explored before. And will be until the end of time, Zombies or Meteor?

2006 KC Majestic Blue Frontier, Nismo 4x4, V-6 4.0, 6Spd, bought new, 147K mi "Sold"

I prefer not using remote start or drive-thrus, both hurt your MPG's a lot & you shouldn't let your vehicle idle more that a minute or so especially unattended.
Remember oil isn't a renewable energy source. One day it will all be gone?

And now I have to do it all over again with 0w-20!!!!!

And I was reading that a 0w-16 oil is coming out!!!

LOL, I'm glad when I was coming into car age my dad just got a new 86 Vette and they came with Mobil 1 5-30W and I figure if it's good enough for a vette running around Daytona for 24hrs wide open it's good enough for my POS going to the grocery store.

Re: No more 0w-20 for this guy

I'm the black sheep of the family! 15w-40 here from the time I bought my 2005 Titan used. 174,900 miles and now at 210,000. Since I live way down south Louisiana, no snow, no massive cold fronts! Truck is used 70% highway and never left me anywhere. Change my oil every ten thousand miles, filter change at five thousand between oil changes. Roll Titan Roll! As a mater of fact I'm having Blackstone test my oil next filter change coming up.

Thanks for the thread post, it's clearly got people talking.
Fact is lots of engines are failing and not just Nissan. All forced to run this thinner oil to satisfy a government falicy.. or is it coincidence?

Also glad it's getting people talking 😁

Not all engines are failing. I have a 2002 Acura RSX with 230,000 miles on it and it runs like a top. I also have an '84 Chevy Silverado 3/4 ton with a 454 and three speed turbo trannie in it that we use on the farm. BOTH vehicles are running great with minimal issues. In my opinion, if you take care of your ride, change the fluids on time and when necessary you'll be fine. I believe the lower viscosity has more to do with modern engines than anything else. I was under the impression that the lower thickness meant that the engine doesn't have to work as hard, but I could be wrong.

So if you want to believe that engines are being ruined by thinner oil because of one article that's your prerogative and I am happy to let you have it. As for me and mine we will have faith in science and make our opinions based on our own experiences.

This is where I am at too and simply put its hard to accept 0W20 oil when you cut your teeth on 10W40 and finally got comfortable 5W30 and now they want us to use 0W20 oils... I'm sure that M1EP 0W20 is good oil for my Titan but dang I need a pill or a drink...
