2005 Titan cracked exhaust header, passenger side

I love this truck, however the cracked exhaust header sound is annoying. The local dealer's price to replace with an OEM parts was quoted at $1,450 including labor.
Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance - John

Re: 2005 Titan cracked exhaust header, passenger side

At close to 200k I couldn't justify tube headers and retuning the motor so I replaced mine with aftermarket and they didn't last hardly a year. These didn't just crack, they had pieces falling out. And on the drivers side an entire weld circling the pipe separated from the main manifold pipe completely. Luckily I kept the originals which just had one stress crack each, and welded them up myself and put them back on TODAY as a mater of fact. It is a huge pain of a job to do yourself. You'll need every extension, wobble, u-joint and curse word you have -and a torch to heat the nuts red or they'll never break loose so plan on replacing those header nuts and the header gaskets of course . Also you'll need to block the drivetrain up and remove both motor mounts, the passenger side is a bear and it had to come apart even. The Dip Stick tube has to come out and even it put up a fight. Make sure and blow out any debris where it goes into the block then soak with WD then pull straight out, it's an o-ring seal that just pushes in and out, but it doesn't seem to want to turn loose easily at first. Don't waste your time on aftermarket replacements, just weld 'em up and put them back on. GOOD LUCK.

Re: 2005 Titan cracked exhaust header, passenger side

OEM parts WILL CRACK AGAIN. Welding the cracks as well WILL FAIL AGAIN. You don't want to have to do this job twice.

If you plan on keeping the truck check out our permanent fix. www.cajunbpipes.com

Re: 2005 Titan cracked exhaust header, passenger side

Welcome to Titan ownership. This is a common problem and replacing the exhaust manifold with stock will likely crack again. You need to talk with Jeff at Cajun B Pipes and Joe at Cajun Tuning before making any decisions. No regrets here.

Re: 2005 Titan cracked exhaust header, passenger side

Ok , Two things do you want to keep the truck for a long while and are you able to do the job yourself. if you are paying a shop you sure don't want the aftermarket cheapo's. If you think you would be wasting money on after market headers / catalytic converters and you bought the eastern or magnaflow one piece cats/manifolds you would be right. if you installed all that and then welded your old cats back up and installed them after the failed pacesetter, eastern, magnaflow that sounds like more wasted time to me. Now with all due respect I am sure Jim's newly installed manifolds with the patch welds will crack again soon. But of course the best of luck on that. I did mine in 2012 and no problems since.I did it in stages started with B-pipes ,then did upRev then put the headers on.More affordable that way and you can see the difference with each step. https://www.titantalk.com/forums/tit...-2004-4x4.html https://www.titantalk.com/forums/tit...t-freedom.html

Dorman as well. We've got calls from guys who had them fail in less than 6 months. They say they warranty the part, but the LABOR to uninstall/ reinstall the new one is on you. Just not worth it
