Re: fan hitting shroud noise

Get a video of sound in truck. and video of sound with phone out window of truck. Upload to YouTube and share links. You saying it sounds like it's coming from the dash, is definitely throwing me off?

I prefer not using remote start or drive-thrus, both hurt your MPG's a lot & you shouldn't let your vehicle idle more that a minute or so especially unattended.

Re: fan hitting shroud noise

@slyfur1 I say the dash but I'm pretty sure its outside or in engine compartment, it is confirmed LH side, I don't have a video phone just a flip phone ( I know I know) had a friend outside and when I drove past him and tapped the gas he heard it and confirmed its the LH side, I all so found out it makes the noise in reverse as well, could it be an engine accessory ? But it does not make the sound if I just rev engine.. I will try and capture sound on video when I can get in touch with someone with a video/ phone.

Re: fan hitting shroud noise

Air diverter gear box makes a clicking sound for a few seconds when its starting to fail, and could be mistaken as a fan hitting, and its located under the driver side dash.

Re: fan hitting shroud noise

Broken motor mount? Put in Park, rev engine. Put it in Drive, rev engine. Different sound each time?

Re: fan hitting shroud noise

@HRTKD It does not make the sound in park when revved, I do hear an air sound like sucking in, but thought that was just normal, I'm pretty sure all the mounts are good, motor does not even move when I rev it.

Re: fan hitting shroud noise

it just diverts the air from the A/C blower motor to the defrost, vents or foot.

Almost every engine will move some when put in Drive or Reverse, foot on the brake (hard) and the RPM's are raised. How much it moves depends on your motor mounts.

Re: fan hitting shroud noise

@HRTKD I got you! in drive and some pedal pressure motor lifts about 1/4 of and inch, in park it really does not move at all when revved , I put truck in low range to try it and same thing when rolling and gas it , it makes the noise, there is no sign anywhere of fan hitting shroud, I looked very carefully and with a bright light, plus say I'm doing 50 and goose it and it downshifts it does not make sound, A friend said it almost sounds like massive ping or piston rattle but I don't by that being it only happens from 5 mph or so and that's it nothing above that.. arrrrgggghh...

Re: fan hitting shroud noise

Interesting, I brought it to a local garage who only really works on vintage stuff, but he's a pretty smart guy, with a little persuasion he drove the truck, he said he is not sure but sounds like the traction control is activating but he has no way to check this. Thoughts?
