I have an 06 2wd CC non tow LE. Went up to the mountains last week and was hearing some new noises in the rear end area. Today got under the truck and what do you know the driver side axle oil seal has failed. I have fluid coming down the backing plate and all inside the rim. The truck has 44,000 miles. Anyone have any recomendations bout what I should threaten the dealershio with when I go in next week? Does the 60K drivetrain warranty cover something like this?

You're covered under the 5/60.

It's a Dana Axle issue! Not specific to any year!

Well I took it to the dealer today ad the service rep told me "it has to be actively leaking, some moisture around the backplate is normal" have to see what the tech says. Personally i dont think there should be anyoil seeping and or leaking thats why there are seals right?

Just got off the phone with the service dept. the rep told me that the tech said excessive leaks will replace with all new rear end. So I told the rep to see if they can put an 08 rearend instead since the 04-07(Dana) have so many problems, hes going to get back to me needs to thalk to the parts mgr. not holding my breath.

Just got the truck back home and I was inspecting and i noticed that there is no longer a vent tube instead there is a plug. Now Im wondering weather the tech forgot or there is an upgrade of some sort. Reason I ask is when I mentioned to the service mgr about the vent tube issue and if they do the mod, he hadnt heard anything about it(usually they all say that). But he went and asked the parts mgr and the tech and nither knew, he told me he is going to call nissan and find out. This is what i got today a whole new rear end assy part#2003786(43003 7S26A) ratio 2.937 made in USA with genuine nissan parts 7/31/2008 does this mean its an 08 rear end?

The dealer was supposed to remove the axle vent from the old axle tube and install it on the new axle tube. If your dealer has shipped out the old rear end then, not a big deal, you can install the axle vent mod. But you will need to install some type of axle vent to prevent problems.

I'm pretty certain that you have the '08 rear end. I've heard of many other people with early year Titans and their rear ends were replaced with the '08 rear.

The only downside with having the '08 rear is you cannot install the True-Trac.

They are supposed to remove the shipping plug and put the vent on there, I have included the TSB for it. Take it back and tell them to find out what they are supposed to do before they blow the seals out of the new one also.

Crap, I knew it. Thanks for that TSB, in the first pic is what I have in the axle right now. Do you know if the mod will void warranty? I had a feeling something was going to go wrong since the service rep and the tech had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned the breather possibly causing seal damage. Either way I have to get something on there whether its the mod or the original.

Take a picture of that with enough showing that it is your truck, I don't trust Nissan to try and get out of this one if the seals are compromised already. There would be a barbeque at that dealership and some a$$ would be smelled cooking. Print the TSB and take it with you when you go, and really let them have it, how bout maybe you guys follow some documentation for a change or something. Hopefully the seals are okay, then again, that vent is mighty important, have them fix it first, that way they are responsible for any issues further down the road and its documented. Then you can do the vent mod. You are going to have to take that back there to have them shown that there might be a problem down the road. The axle vent mod is easily removed and should have no effect on warranty, it provides less possible contamination and venting than their crap does, but if it has to go back in for anything, remove the mod and add back on the original, take about two minutes. OH and remember to get the paper when you take it back in explaining why they have to fix it and what they did to repair it correctly, have it documented on that paper that the vent was not installed when the rear was replaced, it was driven unknown by you until now, make sure it is documented that they screwed up. Oh and tear them up on the customer satisfaction survey you will get in the mail and mail it in, do not take it to the dealer, they have a way of disappearing there.
