I really want to get rid of my drop in factory plastic "rust magnet" bedliner and go with a linex type liner. I really don't feel like or have the money to pay $500+ for a sprayed in bedliner so i've been looking seriously at the "do it yourself" roll on kits like the dupli-color that walmart sells. I've seen a few in person and they seem to be very good and as long as the prep is done good they seem VERY rugged. I saw one that was chipped and stuff but the guy admitted that he kind of skimped a little on the prep. Does anybody on here have the do it yourself kit? How is it holding up and how hard was it to do? It looks fairly easy(just sanding and prepping the bed, taping off and rolling on) and looks like it would only take an afternoon to do. I really like the idea of a nice heavy duty bedliner coating for under $100 and a little time and sweat.

Just did a little reading and I think i'm going to be staying away from the duplicolor liner and probably going with the herculiner. The herculiner isn't much more expensive and had alot of good reviews and the duplicolor had a ton of bad reviews. I'm going to prep my a$$ off though because that's what makes it or breaks it it seems.

I just helped my buddy with the herculiner kitin his 91 hardbody... Wear gloves... work outside it's messy and stinks.
It does grip very very well though. Had some trash in the bed tried the old back up and stop maneuver to dump it, no such luck. cant vouch for durability it's not a month old yet. For prep I'd spring for a cheap palm sander if you don't have one. For 20 bucks it's worth it. and extra scotch brite pads. head to the car wash also if you have one thats DIY and go at it with their scrubber and pressure hose. I believe the kit said use xylene? to clean the paint from oil and whatnot but I used laquer thinner and it worked well.

When I finally get my jeep (should be only a few more weeks) I am going to do the herculiner for the interior so that I can leave the top off and not worry about it. The guys on the YJ forums love it.

i herc'd the inside of my jeep tub. easy to do. just prep it properly and roll it/brush it on. easy to do. and yes, go with herc over the duplicolor.

I've heard it fades out a bit. I've heard of several ways to help this issue, like putting a clear coat over it. I am going to look into these as the time gets closer.

Like other's have said, go with the Herculiner. I've done my entire Jeep, from the tubs and even around the outside. I've also put it on our John Deere Gator. It's VERY durable stuff, if the prep is done correctly. As mentioned, WEAR GLOVES!!! I found out the hard way the first time doing it and was over a week before that stuff finally came off my skin.

A word of advice:
If you have an orbital sander, use that instead of the brillo pad they include in the kit. Unless you like scratching for hours and hours to try and scuff up the paint. Take your time taping up corners and edges. The more time you prep, the better it's going to look.

Yes, the liner does fade in color after awhile. But hey, it's a bed liner, it ain't supposed to look pretty. It does its job and does it well.

Good luck!

 to a fellow CJ owner.

mine's currently undergoing surgery. f&r dana 44's, tbi chevy 350/th350/dana 300. hope to have it done "soon"!

now i didnt use herculiner for my most recent project but have used it in the past and it is great...every post on here is accurate...the reason i didn't use it this passed time was because i sprayed my running boards and bug guard...it looks real nice and came out perfect(i have a black truck) i preped well and used rustuleum spray on...also a nice product.

Can you thin and spray Herculiner?

my cousin did the herc on his chevy bed...he only bought 1 and actually had to go back and get another which put his cost up to 300 bucks...if you are going to do it right, you will need 2 or 3 cans from what he said. and i saw his bed and i agree, at least 2 cans of the linner.

you could get a bed rug and replace that drop in bed linner with something that is just as durable and looks like a show trucks bed.

Awsome, thanks for all the replies guys. Sorry it took me so long to get back but i've been really busy. I'm not too concerned about the color fading because #1 I have a tonneau cover so it won't see too much daylight and #2 I use my truck like a ruck and could care less if the bedliner is a little faded. Looks like i'm going to be keeping my eye out and see if anybody is running any sales on it, if not i'll check with my buddy at carquest and see if he can get me a discount. Not to mention I can sell my factory drop in liner for what the herculiner will cost me!
