I have just got the extender (util track) and i noticed it doesnt take any tools to lift it out and steal it... how can i prevent theft? besides leaving it in the garage...
I purchased a bike lock and lock the bed extender to one of the fixed bed tie downs. I figure it will keep the casual thief from taking it.

When you are not using it, locking the tailgate will take care of it not getting ripped off. While using it, a bike lock or similar. But usually when it is in use for me I am heading home with some toys......er...I mean home improvement stuff from Home depot.

I thought of the same thing, and while I have tried to see how easy it was to come out I kept my tailgate locked. For some reason the tought crossed my mind.

uh just unloosen it from both sides and move it forward about 2 foot lift it up and its gone pretty simple. tailgate locked will not make any difference what so ever.

uh..Non UT's don't have knobs to loosen and tighten. Stuck in one position. As far UT's ,like anyhting, if someone wants it bad enough it is there for taking. Before rolltop, I put the UT stopper things behind extender. Now they will need a wrench and some more time.

Even the fixed tie down points are bolted in, so with a wrench, they can still get it, with a little more time. But the harder it is to get, the more likely they'll leave it alone.

i am thinking on the joint that the extender connects to, i may be able to put something together from hardware store to keep it from coming off so easily once its put at the 90degree angle... i will see what i can put together and post up if i get it done...

rule of thumb: If you really have the determination, no lock in the world can stop you.

So if you encounter a theif determined to steal something, you have no chance in preventing it.

Just make the level of work higher for a theif and he/she will go on to the next victim.
