Syn Oil vs Mileage

joekrz said:
Anyone notice an increase in gas mileage running synthetic oil and synthetic differential fluid? If so, how much?
Nope, change not measurable after running Mobile 1 0W-40 engine and 75W-90 in diff. But what the hey, anybody who can justify $6.00/quart oil shouldn't worry about gas mileage! :jester:

Try the recommended 5w/30 Mobil 1. May make a difference. I've always used Mobil 1 in my vehicles. I've never notice much difference at all but....some people claim differently. Then again, some people claim they've seen Elvis recently too!

All I know is I just paid $59 to fill my Titan up the other day.....in sanity I tell ya!!!

Crickett
   helps the pain at the tanks! lol

There is no difference, just better performance. You might see 2% gains but who cares when paying 5-10 bucks a quart right?

Live with it, we're the last generation to live with V8's

No more gas left for the next generation to afford

Is there anything I can do to increase gas mileage air filter or any other product anything please let me know.

You could drive the speed limit, or a little under but, ............How much fun would that be?? :teethmast

I have noticed a difference, i changed the oil out to Mobil 1 synthetic, normal driving, a tank would last about 4-5 days, i am getting about 6 days for some reason, i had mentioned to the wife that i am filling up less frequent than usual..glad it's not just me that is seeing this.

I find going above 2000 RPM will kill gas efficency and traveling above 80MPH is the max the engine can perform below 2000rpm.

Don't lower the tailgate for gas efficency, The wind will simply create more resistance since there is now lower pressure behind your cab and thus pushes down on the truck bed. If you raise the tailgate, the air in the bed will be static and won't have the same negative effect as lowering it

Don't have any extra weight, for reasons of simple physics

Tire pressure will also kill your MPG, more surface area means more HP is used to overcome friction. I think i read online that the tires use 5HP just to simply overcome friction.... Check your tires and inflate accordinly.

Temp.... If its hot outside, don't expect any performance boost or any kind of gas efficency.

Altitude, if your above sea level where the air is thinner, don't even think about getting that magical number 17-18 mpg range.

Types of oil used, if you use a better quality oil (ie. synthetic) the engine will have a small difference in performance but will not significantly raise MPG. The oils will just make the engine run smoother with less friction using less power to move the engine thus increasing MPG (very little IMO)

And last but not least, the 99% reason why MPG is bad
