Hello all,
Promise I am not a troll! 40 some year old father of 2 looking for a new truck.

I had the unfortunate luck of wrecking my 05 F-150 FX4 truck a couple of weeks ago. Long story short, ice on the bridge and lost control. Missed the 2 cop cars but found the guard rail and crashed into a pre-existing crash. They did not total my truck but I let it go as there was frame damage and around $12,000 in repairs. I was well protected in this highway speed crash and walked away with no injuries.

I am now on the hunt for a new truck. F-150 is a good truck but looking around at other options. It seems my focus is down to a Nissan Titan or a Tundra Pickup. Obviously not looking to start a war here but just get some information.

The Titan has a huge price advantage right now, looks like I can get around $9600 off by utilizing USAA's (my insurance company) buying service. This would be for a 2010 LE. I will be trading in the car I am driving now so that will impact my decision depending on trade in.

With the LE it seems I get most of the options including leather. Downside to the Toyota is having to get a SR5 with cloth and USAA shows I can purchase for around $4500 off. I still need to test drive both and see how they fit and drive.

I have been lurking in the forums and seeing what issues are coming up with both brands of trucks. I have decided a 100K warranty will put to rest any concerns I have between the 2. What have people been buying a 7 year 100,000 mile Nissan Warranty for? I know that I can get the Tundra warranty for about $1,000. (0 deductible)

Just saying hello and looking for input as I am open to suggestions and advice.

Thanks,
Paul

I've had both, A 2008 Tundra 4wd Crewmax Limited and currently have a Titan CC LE 4wd. My opinion is that all of the trucks out there are pretty good right now. It comes down to personal preference. My Titan rides better than the Tundra. The seats on the Titan are more comfortable. The leather on the Titan feels of better quality. The bed on the Titan SWB is slightly longer, and the spray in bedliner and utilitrac is a nice feature. Stock for Stock the Tundra felt faster than the Titan. They both pull my 5000# boat fine. The Tundra would get a decent amount of bed bounce going over a speed bump in my neighborhood, The Titan has none. My titan gets a dash rattle when cold, I need to get to the dealer to clear it up. The Tundra mpg was about 1 to 2 mpg better. The Tundra is slightly larger than the Titan in rear passenger room. Lastly, paint quality seems better on the Titan.

I only sold my Tundra because of the stupid high money it was bringing in trade. I put 40000 miles on it and traded it in for $4k less than purchased new. I went with the Titan because I felt that it is the best Value in the truck market. I similarly optioned Ford, GMC, or Tundra was at least $3k more.

Good Luck

Shop around.
I managed to beat the USAA price by 1300 bucks when I bought mine.

personally i like both.. both are great trucks... for price i would go with the titan... its really personal pref. i say go for what you like best.. or what you get the better deal on.. im assuming you will get the better deal on a titan.. but you never know.

I am not terribly partisan and I think all the trucks are pretty well built today. I will say that when you drive one of the imports you will be impressed, probably very impressed.

I would feel more confident buying a new Titan because I think the drive train has been beefed up somewhat. I would also buy a Toyota without hesitation as well and that would probably be my first choice if buying tomorrow depending on price.

Other that a rear axle seal issue, I have had zero issues with my truck and it has been just flawless (mileage in the low 50k range). I still have the stock brake pads and it not even needed an alignment or anything. I am a forty something father of 2, pretty mellow driver etc.

I have towed with Titans and they are handle trailers with unbelievable easy for a gas engine. I have also driven them in very significant snow and they are great in that setting as well.

Like I said all the trucks are pretty solid today and you want the 100k warranty. If you have been lurking on other boards as well, I think the other trucks have plenty of problems compared to the Titan and Tundra.

I just bought a new 2010 SE titan Christmas eve. I looked back and forth between the tundra and titan and the titan won. The 100K 6 year warranty was around 1800 which you also can finance that for 0%. I got it for about $10,000 off sticker. Which I thought was a good deal.

I have a 2007 Titan XE Crew cab - stock. My brother has a 4 door Tundra with the 8 foot bed.

They both pull our equipment trailer just fine.

My brother kidded me about the truck I bought till he road in it. He agrees that the ride is smoother and the truck handles leas like a boat - his is the long wheelbase with that 8' bed.

Neither of us have had any real problems with our trucks.

His truck can haul more than mine with that full size bed, mine parks better.

I get better mpg than him.

Either would be a good truck.

However, if I were looking to buy, I would still buy the Titan.

Thanks for all the input so far. I am glad to see that the USAA price is at least in the ball park but gives me some additional room for negotiation.

There seems to be a ton of Tundras on the dealer web sites, the Titan seems to be more limited.

I did see a 2009 PROX4 (think I have that right) for $11,600 off on USAA. However it did lack the side airbags and stability control. Having just come from accident safety is certainly a priority.

Any downsides to the 20" wheels? We get some snow but plenty of ice here in KC. Off-roading would be only limited on my part.

Thanks all,
Paul

I have an 04 Titan Crew cab LE that I got used with 25000 miles on it. It was 13 months old when I got it and I've only had the authorized Brake upgrade done to it and one electric window motor replaced under warranty. Changeds teh Tranny fluids at 62000 and the engine oil, Mobile 1, about every 15000. Filters every 5000 miles.

I've been very happy with my Titan and will probably guy another one when the time comes. I only drive 3 miles to work so it may be a while with only 70000 miles so far. My old job had me traveling to CA or NV a few times, hence the current mileage.

While the Tundra is a damn good product "the better than thou" attitude of 99% of the Toyota dealers and their higher than others prices will keep me away. :hi:

New Truck

I made a deal tonight on a 2010 Titan Crew Cab LE. No options and just over $10,000 off. Took a bit of a bath on the 07 Saturn Aura with some minor fender damage but was expecting that given the car. Actually glad to get rid of the creaking car.

I go in tomorrow to finish up the paperwork and pick-up the truck.

I thank all who responded to my post and look forward to being a regular here.

Great decision. I think the LE is the best bang for the buck on the Titans. Welcome to the Titan world, you will not be disappointed. I was recently looking at getting rid of the Titan for a car due to a new commute and fuel costs. After looking I decided the extra cost in fuel was worth keeping the Titan. You will love it! When you get a chance, post some pics or details of your new truck... color, 4wd? etc. Again, welcome to TT, there is a lot of great information to be found here.

Congrats on your purchase, and welcome to the forum! I'm sure you will enjoy the new ride :) Get some pics up here for us!!

Welcome. That is exciting that you are getting a new Titan. I picked up my 2010 just before Thanksgiving and I am so happy with it. I traded in my 05 KC
on the new truck. I looked around a little at other makes, but knew it would be a Titan. Finding the truck I wanted on the east coast was a PITA. I have a 2010 CC SE LWB in Galaxy Black.

I had a bunch of things fail or break on my 05, and Nissan repaired everything under warranty, providing me with a rental anytime the repair took more than a day. I believe a lot of the issues with my 05 have been resolved, and if they have not, well, I believe Nissan will take care of any issues the new truck may have.

We want to see the new truck ASAP!
Here's mine:

Got it!
Blizzard White LE, Charcoal leather 4WD with no options. Picked up the OEM all weather floor mats for $54 with tax.

Drove home like a Grandma as my accident on 12-8 is still fresh on the mind.

In the daylight tomorrow I will take some pics and figure out how to post them.
Very impressed with the truck. Reading the owners manual tonight to learn about all the features.:ftard:

Thanks for all the welcomes.

Congratulation on the purchase! I have an 05 with absolutely NO problems thus far (knock on wood). Plus, the titan looks flat out SEXY compared to tundra! Have fun with it, the LEs are VERY nice! Oh and welcome to Titan talk :)

I love the optical illusion of the second picture, looks like the truck dwarfs the house. I was able to park our old Excursion in the garage and the new truck just fits as well.

Looks sweet!!! There was slim pickings when I bought my '09. I had to have the tow package so the only one with it in 4 of the Northeast states was the same color as my '07 which is smoke. I wanted red, black or white.

Not a fan of the white mudflaps....they come with the LE?
