Updated info on rear diff gear oil

We just got updated info from Nissan tech training dept. as follows.

They now recommend API GL5 Synthetic 75W-140 Gear Oil in the rear diffs of all Titans and to make the change as early as the first 1000 miles and at 30,000 mile intervals. This is minimum recomendation interval, more often if severe service as in towing or heavy loads.

This info is also in the Assist computers at Nissan dealers. The part # for the 75W-140 is 999MP-DF100P and is not on our parts master price list as of yet.

Dealers must order it from Nissan Chemicals online or over the phone. No retail price has been released yet but dealer net is $10.49 per qt.
Expect it to be arround 16.00 to 17.00 per qt. retail.

I'll be changing mine as soon as my order of gear oil comes in.

Will they be notifying customers of the change? Just seems it would be cheaper for Nissan to swap out the fluid instead of rear ends.

16-17 a quart? I'll be using Redline if it costs that much. That's exhorbitant.

You'd think that Nissan would at least make the first fluid change free of charge since they screwed up the design of the differential to start out with! :flame:

I wonder if there will be a STB or recall to change the fluid. If it's causing problems, why should we pay for it? And does this pertain to the front diffs as well?

Absolutely...NISSAN should pay for the change...and new aluminum cover.....how can we pressure them to do this??????.....and what about the front diffie?????
I just bought the Valvoline Syntec..75-140 $14+/qt.....and want to put it in and the new aluminum cover at the same time..and be done with it!!!

Whats with erasing my Amsoil Link?? You got something against them??

As I stated it is only $12 a quart direct from Amsoil.

After reading all the posts regarding the rear-end gear oil being a concern, I replaced the rear gear oil with Mobil 1 75W-90 this past Sunday. The original oil was nasty, there was about a 1/4 inch of sludge stuck to the drain plug. Should I have used a 75W-140 oil instead? BTW- I have an SE 4X4 with no big tow and no e-locker, but did have the dealer install the Nissan hitch to tow my snowmobile trailer (no more than 2500 lbs loaded)

i wonder if all the diff problems are with the e locker? big tow? 2wd or 4wd or all.
i was curious why nissan decided to go with a dana 44 instead of a bigger one???

I wondering why they didnt go bigger also, dosent make a whole lot of since that my dads 01 crew cab supercharged h233b holds about 3 quarts of fluid. It seems they went above and beyond for the entire driveline except the diff.

I also changed to Mobil75W-90 a couple of months ago also in rear diff.

I think sythetic 75w90 should be more than adaquate even if pulling moderately heavy loads as long as its synthetic. I think nissan chaged the reccomendation to 75w140syn for extra insurance.
