Wife saw some scratches in my truck today. I felt like throwing up! Truck only has 700 miles on it.

Anyway, it wasn't keyed or anything. It looks like some scratches from a tree branch or a bush /shrub/hedge.....whatever. My truck is black and the scratches are white so it looks like its through the paint but when I feel it and run my fingernail over it I cannot "feel" the scratch, so I don't think that they are deep scratches.

I have read a thread on here that people were arguing that black and white Titans do NOT have clearcoats. I am 99% sure that they (at least the black ones) DO INDEED have a clearcoat.

My dealer also put a teflon coating on my paint free of charge.

So with the clearcoat and this teflon....what can I use, if anything, to get these scratches worked out. Would a basic rubbing compound be safe/effective???

A product called GS-27 works well. I comes in a tube and costs about $13. That's the only one I've tried and was happy.

I have a black Titan and I use light rubbing compound for scratches that you cannot feel with your fingernail. Meguiars makes a product as well. That will come out if you cannot feel it with your fingernail.

Be careful with rubbing compound. Try Meguiar's ScratchX first. If the scratch is minor it will safely remove it. Go to their website for other helpful hints about this topic.

I agree with the Mequiars Scratch X its about $8 a tube and I've been very pleased with it. I've used it to wax the entire vehicle before I use the Mequiars NXT wax. I'd be very carefull using rubbing compound, especially on a black truck. Black shows every little scractch in it already.

Definitely try the ScratchX first, however, don't be afraid of light 1000 grain scratch compound when used lightly by hand. Like I said, my black is perfect after the compounding, and I am fussy as hell!! Just don't compound the same area 10 times because it takes off a little clear coat each time. If the ScratchX works, by all means that is better. If it does not, then would you rather keep the scratch or use compound? The people who are afraid of compound use the wrong product or dont apply it properly.

don't use rubbing comp

Don't use rubbing compound! It is too coarse for basecoat/clearcoat paint try polishing compound it's finer grit. Then follow with megiures swirl remover. I've had good luck with this combo.

Thanks. I bought Sratch X. I will try that first. After looking closer, one or two of the scrathes are deeper than I thought (damn branches!!). I CAN feel them with my fingernail. I don't know if I am going to get these ones out or not. The other scratches aren't too,too bad.

Is this Scrath X similar to a polishing compound??

Should I be doing this by hand, or is it better to use my electric buffer??

I Have The Deep Water Blue And I Ran Off Road In Woods And Scratched Pretty Bad.i Thought They Came Out With Scrath X At First, But After Afew Days I Could See Them Again. Oh Well At Least I'm Not Worried About That First Scratch Any More. Might Try Something Stronger Later.

Yeah, I kina feel the same way

Be careful with GS-27. I have noticed that if you get too carried away, you will leave a dull spot, full of TINY scratches. It is a polishing compound of sorts, so its to be expected. Id go with Meguiers. It may only be scuffed...no scratch, just surface stuff.
