Need a little help here. I have the usual issue of my gas gauge not going below 1/4 of a tank. I saw the recall for the 2005, but I called the dealer and was told that my 05 was not listed as part of it.

Could this be a mistake, or does it take some time for the recall notice to get to me?

The dealership should be able to run Service Comm with your VIN and check to see if it is eligible for any recalls.

I gave them the vin, but they said no recall for mine. I thought all 2005 models were recalled. I do have the IPDM recall, but not this one.

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 10V074000

Component: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:STORAGE:FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM
Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
Potential Number of Units Affected: 340000

Year: 2005
Make: Nissan
Model: Titan
Manufactured
from: 0000-00-00
to: 0000-00-00
Recall Date: 2010-03-03

Summary:

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2009 TITAN, ARMADA, AND INFINITI QX56 VEHICLES. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE MAY INACCURATELY DISPLAY THAT THE VEHICLE STILL HAS SOME FUEL, TYPICALLY ABOUT ONE QUARTER TANK, WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY.

THIS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL ON THE HIGHWAY, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH.

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL SENDER UNIT INSIDE THE FUEL TANK WITH A NEW IMPROVED SENDER CARD. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 22, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

Mine never used to read full even after a fill up and would always get to empty long before the tank was actually empty. I noticed that if i park nose down on an slight incline in of my driveway, the tank would always read lower than it was, 7/8 of a tank when it is actually full, and if i parked nose up in my driveway it would read full when it was full. Now that i have it leveled, it is accurate.

I had problems wit hmyu titan for years with the gas guage, ran out of gas on the freeway once and after that i decided to get it fixed. I still dont trust it and have never had my idiot light come on. I dont even know if the light works. mabee ill take a 5gallon jug with me next time in around an 8th of a tank and drive till it comes on or dies haha

I had the same problem for my 2007 Titan XE and just got it fixed last week. It's the fuel sender unit, the dealer should be able to check with your VIN. You should call Nissan 1-800-647-7261 and let them know of the prob. Thay will give you a file number and will tell you what dealer to take it to for repairs. That's what I did.

That's what I will do. I hope they take care of it. It's a known failure for this and other model years.

My 04 never shows full. On a full take it just barely goes over the 3/4 of a tank like. The idot gauge seems to correct though, either way I know around 340 miles i've used between 21 or 22 gallons.
Thats what mine was like before i leveled it. Once leveled, it reads the fuel level properly

I called Nissan and got a claim started. They told me to take it to my dealer and have the service adviser call them after it was diagnosed. This will hopefully be easy. I have racked up 142k with no major issues and I really don't want to hassle with this if Nissan won't cover it.

Really glad I found this post!!! My 2004 T died on me on the road today. Fuel gauge said there was more than 1/4 tank left. I took a pic of it, thinking no one would believe me. NJDOT truck came by a gave me 2 gallons of gas. Truck fired right up. I'll be calling Nissan USA in the morning to get this ball rolling. Thanks guys!

I just got a ridiculous education on the difference between a Service Bulletin, and a Recall Campaign. I have a 2004 KC. In the Service Bulletin (attached above), my truck (including VIN) is included as being one of the units possibly affected by this known issue. A Recall Campaign, however, is a mandate from the Federal Government which states that Nissan must repair the affected units at no cost to the customer. This particular Recall Campaign has somehow been written (2005-2009 Titan) to exclude affected 2004 vehicles. How could this even be possible??? Its the same truck, the same Sending Unit, the same flaw, the same characteristic upon failure... But because the Federal Government has not stated that Nissan has to repair 2004 Titans (free of charge), Nissan is charging me (trying to, anyway) 381.00 for the repair of an issue that they are well aware of, and have repaired for free, for individuals who were fortunate enough to not have purchased the first model-year of this vehicle. If they think I'm taking this laying down (face down, *** in the air, with an open jar of Vaseline on the night stand), they got another thing coming (no pun intended).
