I just found this out yesterday because the service department ordered and 05 part instead of a 04. In the 04 you can open the front doors while they are locked by just pulling on the handle. In the 05 you have to unlock the doors first. I f you pull the ahndle witht eh locks locked the door does not open. Sorry if this has been dicussed. I did do a search, but no luck.

You mean kinda like the older Fords?

Exactly! The 04 do it and the 05 don't.

Wonder why they didn't do it for '05.

I have a crew cab and it has the little switches on the back doors that prevent the occupants from opening the door from the inside if the door is locked. Childproof! Lots of other cars and trucks have had these in the past.

Thats child locks and not what he is talking about. Lock your doors and pull the handle....they dont open. The 05's do. Most moderen cars do this and it irritates me to no end that my Titan does not. That and autolocks would make the truck perfect.....well that and auto 4wd!

Other way around the 04 door will open and the 05 will not.

i know my fiancee's 02 altima doors dont open until you unlock them...takes some getting use to...my 04 titan opens with the doors locked...

Yeah I know what you mean, it irritates my passengers to no end, they think i'm lockin them in on purpose :boxing:

I guess it's a preference thing but, I have the 4dr CC and when I lock the doors, only the front doors can be opened w/o unlocking them...regardless of weather or not you set the child lock on the rear doors.
So your kids are safe in the back seat, unless they unlock the doors of course, then you'd be smart to use the child locks.
My point is that I prefer not to have to physically unlock the drivers door (or passenger door) every time I want to exit the truck. Not that it's a HARD thing to do, it's just that I'd forget and probably come close to ripping the door handle off when in a hurry.

I hope you are talking about from the inside! lol

LOL - I guess it's to deter teen drivers from doing stupid stunts like trying to open their doors while moving so they can hit kids riding their bikes only to fall out and slam their face into a parked car.

Confused? See this thread: http://www.titantalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22150

Kids will do stupid things even if they are crazy glued to the floor! I bet Nissan had some complaint or threat of a suit because someone got their coat caught on the handle.

Update: Well my dealer got the parts to fix the door in. After installing the part the driver's side the door would still not open by pulling the inside handle with the doors locked, but the passenger side door did. We checked a few 04 left on the lot and none of them would open from the inside with the doors locked. Evidentally they are not supposed to do that. They are ordering another part for the passenger side door now.

My Jan '04 CC will do that. Apparently they were supposed to do it, and Nissan changed their mind for some dumb reason. I consider it to be a nice feature and not a safety issue. Kids in the back seat, strapped into a 5 point harness and child locks on takes care of any concern over them opening the door without unlocking it first.
