Question about Mandrel bent Exhaust vs. Aluminum...

Does anyone know what difference it makes if you have SS Mandrel bent exhaust tubing vs. aluminum tubing besides the cost?? I do relize the aluminum bent pipes change the diameter in areas, but does this really decrease horsepower that is noticeable???

You probably mean aluminized steel, as aluminum makes a pretty poor material for a truck exhaust. Anyways, you probably wont feel a difference between the two, assuming the only difference between the two is the type of bends and alloy used. Try to select a piping path that requires a minimum amount of bends and joints, and replace your resonators if applicable. Good luck.

U GOT CATS. Sorry.
Are the resonators before the cats or after the cats on a 2005 crew cab 4x4?? I did a search on the forum, and from what I've seen, I do not have resonators on my truck. It seems that the trucks that have resonators, also have that coin holder.Mine did not have the coinholder, hence no resonators :)

i got aluminized because ill probably only keep my truck for 5 yrs or so, i figure it will last that long. i really like ss but just cant afford or my wife doesnt see that i need pretty shiny pipes under my truck, hahahaha. maybe ill sneak it on there and tell her i polished the aluminized, like she would no the difference.

Some models have 4 cats, which I believe are the 4x4 or OR models. It's probably there to act as a spark arrestor.

Wait a minute...I've got resonators, where's my coinholder?

Nevermind, all my coins go to pay for my Titan anyway, therefore, I never have any coins to put in my coinholder. Wait a minute, I don't have a coinholder. Now I'm confused.

You are correct. The 4X4's have four cats. The 4X2 has two cats and the resonadors.

Now the other good reason to go with SS pipes is because there is less of a chance to have creases in the bends. Aluminized steel creases quite easly.

I think what you are asking is two seperate questions? You want to know which is better, mandrel bends or crushed bends? And you want to know which is the better pipe material?

Answers:

Mandrel bends are superior to crushed bends as mandrel bends retain the inner diameter of the pipe while crushed bends reduce the interior diameter at the bend as a result of bending the pipe.

Aluminized steel is superior to regular steel tubing as aluminized steel will not rust like regular steel pipe. Stainless Steel would be superior to both for obvious reasons but will cost you big bucks.

Thanks for the replies, It seems that buying the SS pipe is pretty nuch a waste of money. I don't think you lose that much horsepower by having crushed pipe vs. Mandrel bent pipe. Looks like I'm going with the aluminum and saving 400.00 I guess if I had a show truck, I'd go With the SS mandrel bent pipe. How do you guys record sound clips and post them here??
