I keep hearing this, change the diff oil at 15K but I can't find it in my manual. My manual says change at 30K. Could someone please tell me what page that is on?????
Just saw that the maint. manual says I=Inspect, sorry. I'll replace anyway every 30,000.

Whew, thanks for clearing that up for me, I thought I was loosing it.
:jester:

I'm somewhat confused. I do quit a bit of towing and . . .
The owners manual states every 3,000 miles. Am I correct in assuming this was changed to 30,000 miles as stated in the TSB?

Hear we go again, the manual says to inspect at 3000. First change is 30K.
Gotta read the fine print and side notes.

Am I seeing something wrong?
Because sometimes I just don't get it but . . .
I think note 2 of the Periodic Maintenace (see attachment above by rjspitz) states that change (not just inspect) oil at every 3,000 miles.

I know this is like beating a dead horse, but if you notice it has a footnote #2 and that is in reference to the Pathfinder Armada only.

I'm probably blind, but I still don't see any references to the Pathfinder Armada anywhere, maybe the MA-23 or MA-24 refernces. Since I don't have any manuals that look like those above I decided to just go out and read the 'Owners' Manual' and 'Service And Maintenence Guide' that came with my truck. It does say that rear final drive fluid shoud be done every 30,000 miles (S&MG page 10) except that it should be done more often if towing (OM page 9-31)

When towing a trailer, final drive gear oil
should be replaced and transmission
oil/fluid should be changed more frequently.
For additional information, see the
“Maintenance and do-it-yourself” section
earlier in this manual.
The "Maintenance and do-it-yourself" section had absolutly no info on the rear final drive.

I think this horse is almost dead now.

-- Thanks for your patience

Okay, page 10 of the service and maintenance guide under (TRANSMISSION FLUID/OIL, DIFERENTIAL OIL, TRANSFER CASE OIL) states Visually inspect for signs of leakage at specifird intervals. If towing a trailor, using a camper or car-top carrier, or driving on rough or muddy roads, replace the fluid/oil every 30,000 miles or 24 months (60,000 miles or 48 months for Murano CVT fluid).

I think the confusion about the 15,000 mile change has to do with the section also on page 10 that states the LIMITED SLIP REAREND (optional equipment on the Xterra and Frontier) should be changed every 15,000 miles if towing.

So people are confusing our ABLS for limited slip rearends.

I hate to do it but you leave me no choice......................................

Yea Haw :jester: :jester:
Seriously, if you tow or haul a lot and want to play it safe. You should probably change your diff. fluid every 15K.

I don't know why but that picture of the guy spanking the horse kind of got me, well, AROUSED! :eyebrow: :idhit:

Parking brake bracket FAB

As you guys know, I fabricated the E-brake bracket for my aluminum rear cover upgrade. I'm tired waiting for that darn 5 dollar bracket. Here's my rough actual schematics, 3-Dimentional sample and actual 14G aluminum bracket I fabricated from an "adjustable aluminum wall shelf bracket". If anyone is interested indoing it themselves, leave a comment and i'll photocopy and post in actual measurements.

Sorry. I did not want to be presumptive. I am presently at work and will post the "measured" drawing when I get home tonight.

This is a thread from a while back on this subject. The service manual does say to change every 3,000 miles if towing, but it is just a recommendation for the worst case scenario. I go by what the owners manual says and change it more frequently if I am towing a lot.

Here is the quote from the service manual:

"CAUTION:
If using the vehicle for towing, the rear final drive oil must be replaced every 5,000 km (3,000 miles) or every three months, whichever comes first."

Rear drive oil change interval

As promised here's the measurements of the e-brake bracket fabrication using an aluminum wall bracket (from Homedepot). Very inexpensive using a table vise, hacksaw(or sawsall), metal file (or grinder), hammer and drill & bits. These are actual installed measurements. Good luck impatient ones.

Might have to update that.......

With the new finned aluminium cover and more fluid....wonder if they will restate that???
Thanks for the great pics. and info. gr8titan!!

Cover install

How long did you wait to add fluid in after the install of the new cover? Pretty good thinking on the bracket design! I'm tired of waiting for mine 2 come in. I might make a trip to Home depot to do the same.

I waited for the squeezed out liquid gasket to dry & loose its tack and when I was able to peel it off the edges (about 5-6 hrs), I filled it up using 2 1/4 qt (while the rear was on a ramp). I've been checking my pumpkin for temperature every time I park at home and check my garage floor every morning for leaks and so far so good.

The best part of it is that my transmission is shifting to OD sooner (in a cold morning) like it i'm on going downhill. That old muddy oil was so thick that it used to take 4-5 miles in the morning to warm my gears up before the transmission shifted to OD. I think i'll be improving my gas mileage too by at least 1 mpg

Thanks for the drawing. My cover is on order with the bracket. If the bracket does not come in your plans will come in handy.

Thanks for the plans. Just installed mine today with a gr8titan engineered bracket.
