when my truck was brand new i'd fill up and the 'miles to empty' would read around 325-330. now i cant get it to read more than 285. i did have the exhaust redone with true duals. the only thing i can think of is its pushing more air out than the engine can suck in, so its working harder using more gas. possibly getting a cai may compensate? anyone have any ideas if thats the issue or could it be something else?

The reading means nothing. it's semi accurate at best. Have you been logging your MPG? Did your actual fuel mileage change? My wife drives a new sonata. When I fill it up it will say something like 350 miles to empty. On a road trip we get about 480 miles out of the tank.

It's used your average mpg reading and applies it to the miles to empty reading. If you're into your throttle and getting 12 mpg instead of 14, the miles to empty reading will be about 50-60 less.

After a highway trip, when I fill up I've had it read 400+ to empty. Driving around town and filling up will usually make it read around 330.

As everyone else agrees, I don't trust or believe the computer for overall mpg or dte. Its ballpark and thats being generous. It does alot of averages and obviously it dependings on your driving habits and mpg. I do a ton of city driving with small short distance highway. DTE from a full tank will read high 200's. If I do a 1 or 2 tanks of mainly highway driving or something with higher mpg, the next full tank dte will read 340+.

mine did that too when i swapped my battery out It was disconnected for about 1 1/2 hours. IDK if having the battery disconnected really had anything to do with it but i was getting the 30 miles to empty warming at around 320, then after the battery swap i started getting it at around 260, mileage was approximately the same according to gallons/odometer. it is now back up to low 300's. i use the odometer/avg mpg anyway, its more accurate IMHO.
