I have a 2006 red titan and the paint is peeling.. in 2011 a lady hit me on the driver side by the rear door of my quad cab, took it to dealer in merritt island FL and was told that the paint on the cargo area was bad and to to fix will have to repaint the whole cargo area, short story, nissan took care of it and said that there was a defect with the paint. now my roof and hood of the truck is starting to peel and they want me to pay $4500 to repaint. any help on how to get front portion repainted??

Tony.

Man, I love the red Titan's, but you guys have been getting screwed with your paint problems.

Good luck man.

So same thing is happening with my black titan. and i called nissan care they gave me claim number went to the dealership and they took pic now im waiting to see if they will cover it for me or they will split it. I suggest doing that you have to kinda suck up to you local nissan dealer because they make the call whether they cover it or not so now im waiting for a call Monday to see ill keep you posted same year titan btw 2006. its about getting them to work with you so far it looking positive!!

Ironically an older gentlemen hit me on my driver side last year haha

I noticed a while back that my paint is peeling on the roof of my T. Mine is a 2006 as well... Is this a common thing with 2006 model years? What should be first course of action?

Like i said in my post i suggest calling nissan care (i can post number Tomorrow it should be on you manual) get a claim number dont be mean just explain you frustration etc. then go to you local nissan dealer and have their body shop take pics to send to the regional rep of your area if enough people do it they may do a recall that would be awesome!!!

Only way to repaint it...is well to repaint it. Start talking around with some of the local car guys and see where to get cheap/good work done

The problem is, cheap and good usually do not go together when it comes to paint and bodywork. It's going to cost $$$ for good work. The '06 models weren't the only ones affected with paint fading on the roof. I've seen '04's and '05's like this as well and when the newer ones get old enough, I'm sure they will be affected too.

The paint is very thin particularly around the top edge of the roof and around the back window. A year ago, I remember looking at the brand new majestic blue '10 or '11 Titan and I could literally see the gray primer shining through the basecoat on the cab around the rear window.

The peeling problem sounds like a clearcoat to basecoat adhesion issue. Sort of like when GM had that big problem with paint delamination back in the mid '80's when they switch to two stage paint on their vehicles. Clearcoat peeling away from the basecoat and the BC/CC together peeling away from the E-coat primer. What a mess.

It's not just 06 models, I've seen 08+ around here with the roof issue in various colors

My 04 peeled all over. First the hood. Then the roof. Then both sides of the bed. Drive it around for about 2 years like that. Then my buddy painted my truck $4500.He owns a high end paint shop. All the other shops i wanted 5500 to 6000. I tryed getting Nissan to work with me but no luck. Here is a pic with my new paint.

My wife's 09 armada is showing signs of rust in the rain gutter area and have been waiting for the dealer to get off there butts to get it fixed. I know 2 out of 3 frontiers that have the same problems and a buddy of mine with a Titan that's showing the same problems, hell a friend of mine had a GTR and the paint was total crap also. This sucks!!!!!!!!!!! Nissan needs to get on the ball and fix this problem....

Wow, that looks good! Did they strip the truck before they painted it?

What would be the "normal price" on a paint job like that at your buddy's shop? I'm looking for a good place to paint my Trans Am when I'm done fixing it up and probably the Titan as well when the paint eventually goes.

Thanks....

Yea they had strip it down to bare metal, wish I would have took pics of it then. Took all the windows out, mirrors off, bed off. He told me around $6500 he would charge some one off the street. He did a great Job. I am very happy with it. I love having a 04 T with a 2012 Toyota color. No one else has one. :)
