Not that I'm a idiot, but I've been experimenting with my truck to find out what the best way is to launch my truck from a stop ? Is it better to hold the gas and brake or just stomp on the gas?

With gas at $2.50 a gallon, I launch ever-so-lightly.
Actually I read a few posts a week ago or so saying that launching out of 3rd is the most powerful, but then I *AM* an idiot, so..............................

Launching out of third is no different than launching out of fifth. It just means that your transmission won't shift any higher than third gear.

Yeah, what he said!

The biggest thing that people say is to lay into it at about 3/4 throttle, then roll on up to full. For some reason this several thousand pound video game we are driving likes it better this way than if you go 100% throttle from the get go.

I've tried to "load" up the suspension like I did in my last truck (i.e. holding the gas an brake down) but my Titan will spin really easy with the brake depressed. I also notice that it takes off better at partial throttle, then WOT after you get rolling.

Yeah I had trying to launch it at 100% throttle and it seemed slower than when I just stomped on it.Does the tow mode do anything, I wouldn't think it would do much ?
I get the same feeling. I think it bogs the engine when you floor it. Instead when you give it 3/4 and then full throttle once it's going, the car picks up much better. But you'd have to go run at the track to see which one is the better launch.

I believe, "the head" does the power brake method and launches at 2500rpm at the track... He's running 13.7 w/ nos.

Mine launches best at 3/4 throttle then roll into it slowly as you accelerate and floored by the time I'm halfway through first gear. If I just stop on it, or try to use the brake, it just bogs down. And VDC on, fuggetaboutit, bog city.

well I just do about 3/4ths and it goes well enough to beat the guy in the other lane and that is good enough for me

I just mash it to the floor. But the dragstrip has better traction than the street. No bogs with mine.

Uh...I'll gladly vouch for that.
So V since you have been in "The Heads" machine and you have yours to compare too, how does your less modded machine take off? I still haven't "mashed" mine from a dead start, got around 1300 miles on her so she is just about due for the final break in. Curious what to expect?

man why shoot off your truck like rahter then just take off slow and shove it in the guys face when you going kinda slow and then gottem beat.

I don't recommend that against a std cab hemi. You'll never catch him/her. Guess it depends on your opponent.

When at the dragstrip, I always have the intention to try a half throttle take off, but when the lights come down I forget all about that and the pedal goes to the floor.
Even after I run 9.80 at 140 on my motorcycle, I still find the Titan exciting at the dragstrip.

Hey, My neighbor has challenged me to a drag race with his Dodge truck against my Titan crew 4x4 with VDC and tow mode.

His is an 03 ext cab gets him 11 to 13 mpg city driving, don't know much about the mechanics of his truck just that he has an after market LOUD exhaust.

My truck is almost at 1K miles, think there is a chance or just let him brag on about his truck and talk trash about the rice burners?

We are to go to a local drag strip for this family car/truck shoot out his stable (PT and Truck) vs (Pilot and Titan).

Any advice or opinion? I take it 3/4 throttle to full and VDC off is the trick or leave VDC on but 3/4 to full for the fastest 0-60 and 1/4 mile.
