I would've been ecstatic if all I had to pay was 200.00
I'll bet you could have saved some coin by calculating a few of the tighter intakes to swap with the exhausts, rather than buy all 32. The ones on the intakes that are good you don't have to change unless of course they are out of spec. What does amaze me is that of all the cam installs, this is really the first I have heard of this issue until I ran across it and RB linked me the thread. Wonder how many others out there are sloppy lash setups on their cams.

Yeah the VKs are for sure not DLC .....Seriously though a GREAT source of info on this would be 5523 motorsports...He deals with this on a daily basis and CO-PRODUCED our cams with JWT

Question for ya, does the DLC add to the height? Or are they coated to the height specification just like in the Nissan SM chart. Is that something he stocks as a selection of buckets or is it a special order type of thing. Wondering if they coat stock buckets and does that thickness change the number then of that bucket since each bucket only has .0008 between each N#. Did you look into these? What was the approx price point if you did. I know another question, are these just coated on the top, or are they coated all around, just thinking of the bore clearances now as well. Have seen alot of the DLC stuff coated entirely, but have also seen just like the crown of the bucket is.

I honestly don't know if it adds to the height...I know they have to be within spec from Nissan but I don't the know specifics on them...price was around 670.00 when I looked for them...all of mine were within spec and didn't need to be replaced or else those are what I would have gone with, and still might down the road when I raise the compression a little....But Nick (5523) would know all of this BIG TIME GURU..Sorry if that didn't answer your questions..lol

Well it helps, and dang, that's a chunk of change but for 40% reduction, or in the Nissan article 25% in friction from what I have read, could be a positive. Just that all those were questions if I did back up here and wait, whether or not I would be able to just go with the numbers I have or calculate new depending on thickness of coating.

Okay have seen the that some are 4-10 microns thick and 4 microns equals .0002 of an inch and it appears that you can add 20 microns of DLC before you get to the next bucket size since 20 microns is .0008 which is the step change between the Nissan buckets in height. Next would be the lifter bore since that spec is much tighter at .0005-.0015, so hopefully it was only a crown coat, especially since I don't think Nissan makes different diameter buckets for the Titan, that I know of. As always I see the BiPolar meds wore off from earlier LOL.

or before I had a rockstar=bipolar med

This should help with why WPC treatment and DLC coating work GREAT together. WPC treatment is a permanent surface treatment, micro-particle shot peening that creates small dimples and provides a greater surface for oil retention. Reduced friction etc.... Check it out on WPC's site, even Nick Hunter of 5523 motorsports recommends WPC treatment.

This vid just shows how WPC interacts with DLC coating. Say a DLC coated wristpin inside of a WPC treated piston.

Surface on left is plain stainless not sure which kind, and the surface on the right is the same stainless but WPC treated.

Cool video regardless.

I for one when cams come time, would be to get bumpsticks WPC treated and DLC lifter buckets.

This vid shows an actual Lifter Bucket with DLC on a WPC treated surface.

Oh and the Nissan Juke engine uses DLC coated bucket lifters as well.

DLC has lower friction coefficient than PTFE aka teflon.

This is a neat video to watch about the VR38DETT GTR engine build a guy does at home and explains the DLC coatings and ceramic barrier coatings on his Wristpins, pistons, rods, valves. Cool stuff.

The Lifter bucket bore diameters should be all the same between the VK56 VK45 VQ35 variants should be 34mm. The VQ35HR (which has dual CVTCS) vs VQ35DE which only had intake CVTCS. VQ35HR utilizes DLC coated lifter buckets on all 24.

This is from Supertech's site in reference to VQ35 parts compatible to VK56.

Complete Standard size valve set intake and exhaust.

Will fit Nissan 350z VQ35 6cyl 24V, Titan 5.6 lts. V8, Armada VK56DE engines.

Intake
Black Nitride
NIVN-1025

Head Diameter - 37.15mm
Stem Diameter - 5.96mm
Length - 96.60mm

Exhaust
Inconel
NEVI-1025F

Head Diameter - 31.35mm
Stem Diameter - 5.95mm
Length - 94.00mm

I already hipped Firelife to this but for the rest of you we figured that the source of my lash problems wasn't the cams, buckets or the truck. My issue was me not being able to pass up a deal. I bought my cams used with @5k on them. We figure since the bearing surfaces had bedded and broken in with a different truck, that amount of wear threw off the original spec enough that everything else was out of whack. I figured that at least the intake side would be close but even some of the clearances there were in the. 015 range. So either its used cams or I got a Friday afternoon truck. I go with my used cams theory. Moral of the story is that I saved 600.00 to spend almost 600 more. I take the blame on that but this time I want to nail that. 011 lash on intake and exhaust. The best lessons generally cost a little more.

i wanna cam my Beast but i see alot of issues.
1 can the tranny and rest of the truck handle it on a reg basis , this is my daily driver
2 do i have the mods to do it or do i need something else 1st i dont half *** when it comes to my T
3 i have had some pretty wide ranges of estimates on install cost and time, would like to know the truth, i will be hiring a shop to do this
4 is it worth the money , for real? i have had a local race shop that deals with nissan stuff mosltly say there on the fence

1.Yes the trans can handle cams no prob!!! Your tire size is a bigger issue for the trans...37s but a big strain on it...

2.Uprev is required or risk the BOOM.... So yeah your mods are good

3. 600-2000$$ Its hit and miss But a skimp on the install can destroy your engine...

4.Yes worth every penny!!!! yes for real....If anyone says there on the fence about it, they have never driven in a properly tuned cammed titan...

ok i am sold cuz i follow what your ppl close to you post for years now, next what would i do to my tranny to make it good.

Well heat is the killer....So a trans cooler will help....Gears would be a big one for you with the big tires you have, by taking some strain off the trans..and a solid line pressure mod through uprev....Aside from having it built that's about all you can do

We need a Titan cam bucket repository for those that need buckets on a cam install. That way folks like the rest of us can recoup some of the bucket cash flow that goes out. Can get them quicker if someone wants to do that. Hell I would even do that. Cam bucket salvage yard. I got a micrometer and can measure them to ensure they were in spec still, then oil bag em and be good to go.
Absolutely.

Cams are done!! And damn if it ain't something else. The valvetrain noise from the previous install is completely gone and I mean gone!!! Sounds just like it did prior to the install. but when the truck was started up, it had a "knocking" sound. When the motor was cold it was loud , but as it warmed up the knock went completely away unless I revved the motor then you could hear it. I'm guessing that since the headers still don't have mileage on the install that I have a leak. The mechanic working on the truck stethescoped it while I was there and said the sound was coming from around the passenger side flange and it was a knock with a very slight "woosh" but not as loud as he had heard on other exhaust type leaks. I told him I didn't have many miles on my header install and I also need to check out the collector flange because I have two suspects there also. I didn't use a metal gasket and I'm pretty sure the bolts are loose where the header collector meets the b-pipe on that side. Lash was at .011 for all but one valve that was at .012 ( and I can live with that all day.) I haven't driven it yet but I will be picking it up tonight. Any thoughts on the knock are welcome.

Kinda silly because I went to headers because of a manifold leak and I watch this video and I'm thinking I'm spot on. Sounds "EXACTLY" like this video.

Just bought the truck home. I lost the knock somewhere between the shop and home. Completely gone!! And S2's have a lope. Gotta spend time with the better half or I'd make a video. And I won't have time for that till I get Seymore a few 0-60 runs because I gave it a couple quick scoots and it runs , but the cams aren't on my base and I figure that's a big change.

Did some Uprev logs today, the truck feels strong but I think if it weren't a flexfuel I'd be in a world of crap with it running lean. Can't wait to see what Seymore does with my "Short Bus" data logs. At this point I really want to hold what I got till Cajun get's off vacation but I may just pay for the Y pipe this week and wait for him to get back from fishing ( Or staring at the water and wishing something was biting. ) I also have all my old lash caps in the boxes that the new ones came in. I'm gonna CLP those bastards and put them up.
