I want to know how many here will use the dealer after the warranty!!

I only go to the dealer during the warranty period. They're just too expensive to do any work that I can do myself, or get one of the small shops to do. I've never taken a vehicle in for a repair to a dealer and the bill wasn't under a grand. Luckily, the repairs were under warranty.

It depends on the work being done. Some of the work I will do myself, some will be done by a small shop, and the rest, of course, will be done by the dealer.

On more complicated stuff, I like taking it to the dealer because I feel that they have seen the problem before and know how to fix it.

ASE Certified Master Mechanic 8 categories

With all of the modifications I will have done to the Titan, There is no way I would trust a minimum wage porter to drive my truck around the dealer lot. They tend to think it’s their turn to flog on your car when it’s in for service. Also, I don’t trust anyone who is trying to beat flat rate while wrenching on my truck. Items get damaged or just don’t get done properly because the Tech is under pressure to beat flat rate so he can make more money. Besides, I am an ASE certified master mechanic, and have no need for the dealer. I will still take the truck in if there is a warranty item that can be performed while I wait, that way I can keep an eye on my baby, but I wont let her out of my sight.

After warranty, I use an independent too! I have an independent that doesn't try to push un-needed profit items. He'll shoot you straight everytime.

I'll Roll The Dice when that time comes and network with friends & family to find a Nissan mechanic who's got the balls to do work on the side. We actually have one but my first Nissan ever does'nt need his services yet. Another family member used him several times for his Nissan car and the guy is Aces!

When the warranty runs out, I get an extended deal. That is assuming that I like the machine enough to hold on to it. Most of the time we trade in for a newer model.
But....should I not have a warranty, I would do the work myself. I'm not just another pretty face!

Back to dealer for warranty repairs only......then to my mechanic if it is something I can't replace myself.

How about "Will replace with a current year Titan before warranty runs out" as a poll option.

You'd always...forever.... be making new car payments if you traded them in before the warranty runs out. The depreciation that adds up trading vehicles before the warranty is up is another problem. A typical car will lose 25% of it's original value in the first year on average. 15% the second year and 10% the third year. That's almost a 40% hit in depreciation if you traded them in every 3-4 years. Yikes!

To tell you the truth, I don't even like taking my Titan in for the warranty repairs. I will certainly NEVER EVER bring it to the dealer when the warranty expires. That would be insane.

With the kind of information that's available on the internet, what used to be the sole domain of technical knowledge found only in the dealership service bays have filtered down to "enthusiast" websites all over the web. I can't count how many times I was able to fix something or do a DIY mod by searching on the internet.

That is why I bought the extended warranty to extend the obvious.

I am wondering which would be more expensive, the depreciation hit or the cost of repairs (after warranty expires)
