I read through a bunch of old posts about installing a PAC Swix and the placement of the infared led. The posts just kinda ended though. Anybody who has installed it, how is it working. And where did you place the infared. Has anybody put it on the overhead console or way down by the 2 cupholders? If someone has experimented with placement, where did you find the best placement was? Thanks alot, because I absolutely love the steering wheel controls and cannot lose them when installing my stereo. Thanks!!

PS Does any manufacturer make a head unit that can plug into the steering wheel controls without use of the Swix?

Man that is awesome!! I am definitally getting an Alpine or Pioneer unit now. I didn't like the idea of having an infared beam for my steering wheel controls.

I would stay clear of the new alpines too many problems with them, they really cut some corners this year...if you get one get last years, but I don't think it has the pAC swix option i might be wrong though.

I did something different with mine, its kind of ugly but not really noticable.

The deck I have (kenwood kvt-915) has horrible ir reception, you have to catch it just right, so I snaked the wire between the pocket from the aftermarket dash kit and the deck itself, then pointed it up. I superglued it in the position to the aftermarket pocket. You can see it, but noone has ever noticed it until I pointed it out.

Someday when I can call my truck complete I will take some photos of all the things I have been doing to it.

I'm gonna get the pioneer DEH-8MP premier head unit. 6.5V preouts, OEL display and really cheap on Ebay. Anybody know if pioneer will warranty a unit purchased online? I know JL doesn't but wasn't sure about pioneer.

ecb...no they won't.

I just installed my SWIX yesterday. Drilled the hole right inbetween the shifter gate/front cup holders, large open cup holder thingy. Works awesome even with my Premier 960MP which has the slide down face. You can test it out after you program your SWIX by just moving the LED to the different spots you're thinking of mounting it. I'll see about grabbing a pic today.

My Blau IR receiver is separate from the head unit allowing for better alignment with their "thumber" (steering wheel IR). Haven't installed it yet, but my PAC SwiX will be coupled to the IR receiver and hidden behind the dash. No drilling! :)

sorry don't know much about this pac swix but want to install one to regain my steering wheel functions.

I have an eclipse double din deck(AVX2404) soon to install AVN5435. This device will only operate by infared signal to the deck in regaining the steering wheel controls?(not directly plugged into deck)

Still no picture since I've been the mad installer the past few days. My PAC is working great at the location I mentioned before. For you guys that have trouble "in direct sunlight", is that sunlight directly on the HU or directly on the LED? I had no problems at all with the PAC working with sunlight directly on the HU but was unable to move my truck (thanks Justintoxicated) to get sunlight directly on the LED.

I was considering butchering a cheap learning remote tapping into the switches...until I learned of the PAC :)

Where there's a market, there's a gadget!

Sorry bout that dog,
Let me know how your swix works in the sunlight I'd like ot order mine tomarrow. At least you got all your panneling back on, I still have to do that tonight, do you have a link to that place that sells the headlamp and to the place you bought your PAC SWI-X? I think I will be working nights....
