My borla exhaust shipped last Thursday. UPS says it left sunny California...

Watching the UPS tracking of something from california to virginia can be EXCRUCIAITING!!!

Come onnnnnnnn, exhaust!!!

I'm most likely going to have a shop install the borla catback.

Do you guys have any gotchas or advice for the install procedure?

I plan on being there

i had to cut off about 1 inch from the end left tube (inner side) to even out the two exits

I installed the Borla system this past weekend and had no problems at all. True bolt-on with minor adjustments to get tip alignment even. Start to finish from stock removal to starting it up with the Borla was about 2 1/2 hours.

Len it can be installed in 60 minutes (2 hrs if your slow and have beer breaks)with out jacking the truck up and a buddy so your not dragging the pipe around. just shoot all the bolts with penetrating fluid( I used PB blaster from walmart) the night before. I just used hand tools no cutting just unbolt the old one and pull off. mount the rear tip hangers(just 2 bolts) slip the new one on line up and the tighten all the clamps. Unless your shop charges you $50 or less I think its better to save the money for other mods. If I was close by I'd come give you a hand maybe some member close by could come by. I did mine at 7 when it was getting dark and had no problems.

Ditto on soaking the bolts. I soaked mine overnight, and still had to hit them with my torch to get a couple of them to break loose. Couldn't believe how seized up they were, especially since the truck only had about 6K on it at the time.

Most of these kits are an easy install. I did mine myself in about 3 hrs, although my back was killing me for days afterwards. Definately use the buddy system if you decide to go the DIY route. If you find a good shop, they shouldn't charge you more than 1.5 - 2 hrs labor, including welding the joints...if you want them to.

Good advice!! Seeing as my back can be suspect at times and time is at a premium with my daughter, I'll let a shop do it.

Any advantages (other than the obvious strength and permanence) to welding the joints?

I wouldn't weld it, the Borla clamps are excellent and this way you can take it off later if you need to. If you want to keep the stock exhaust say for a 07 trade in or something let the shop know my buddy had a shop cut the stock exhaust up and when he had to turn in his leased prelude type sh they charged him for the non stock exhaust he could have put the stocker back on and sold the performance exhaust so lessoned learned.

I just had mine installed last week by a local shop... absolutely amazing! I thought about the DIY route, but for $85 it was well worth having them do it. Everything went on easy; very well engineered. In any case, I just love my new exhaust, you just can't help but burn a little extra gas now and then reving the hell out of the engine... sweet sound. :thumbsup:

I got it... I keep pulling it out to look at it.. I'm going crazy without installing it!!!

I'm going to my buddies (pnuematic tools) house sunday to install the PRG levelling kit on the front... I think I may put the exhaust in the back and see how much energy he has

He's my good friend with the ram hemi i've been razzing pretty hard so he may tell me to go f*** myself

I love the way the tips look, very cool.

I'm not that crazy about how the drivers side pipe passes in front of the rear differential. I may get a custom pipe bent for me to take it up and over the axle it if turns out to be something that bothers me more than I think it will...

I can't wait to hear it!

As per another thread, I work with a guy that runs a truck shop here in Katy and he actually called nissan for me to see what their preference was on a leveling kit. They told him that they see future problems with installing the PRG as it is "metal" and that they would prefer something that uses polyeurathane. He would have loved to sell me PRG (metal) as it is pricier than Daystar (poly), but said that Nissan preferred Poly and he would get me one for $400 installed. He also mentioned that he had to get the springs compressed/uncompressed (not sure), to get it to be right.

I thought about the metal vs poly issues but figured the metal will be more durable and I plan on keeping this truck till it dies (a pattern with me) anyway so it's all good.

I wouldn't think you need to compress the springs for the install as they're coliovers and integrated in to the front shock assembly. Lifting my buddies jeep was an issue since the coil springs were seperate compnents from the shocks and when released were much longer than the shocks.

Mossy was the cheapeast I could find anywhere... I asked here and someone said to check all the sponsors here... so I did.

Took 'em 2 weeks to get it to me but the price was worth it!

I installed my PRG levelling kit today instead of the Borla.

That kit is TIGHT. I have exactly 7 inches of clearance over the front and rear tires now...

now all I have to do is figure out to adjust the headlights

I was LIGHTIN up some heads on the way home in the dark

Put the Borla on, All you need is 3 sockets:
14mm deep socket for the flanges, 12mm for the two bolts that hold the right exhaust hanger up front, and a 15mm to tighten the borla exhaust clamps.

I would suggest backing the truck up on ramps and using a creeper to slide around underneath the truck. Also a jack comes in handy to hold the stock muffler up while you remove the bolts holding it in place. The only thing that takes much time is aligning the tips and getting enough space between the bumper. It was a pretty easy install, the stock bolts are on there pretty good but they will come off no matter what. Only one gave me much trouble and that one came off when the bolt snapped.
