I colorsanded and buffed the clearcoat today, and it looks great! I waited a few days for the clear to cure and harden nicely. The bumper looks great and have no regrets having painted it. I dig the painted look over the chrome- one of my main goals in dechroming the truck. :muncher: If you notice, the bumper itself is darker than the plastic ends- I added a bit of black to the smoke basecoat as I wanted some variety, something different. Must be the designer in me! I installed a Stull billet grille as well, and it cleaned up the front nicely. I never liked the stock grille, so this is a welcome change. I didn't like the polished finish though so I sanded it down to a brushed finish. I will eventually paint the grille the same color as the bumper so the entire center section is a darker smoke. I'm very pleased with the turnout! They will go well with my new wheel/tire combo coming soon! :upsidedow

OH NO! WHERE DA CHROME AT?

Ha, nice job on the paint job. I know it would've taken me 4 months to perfect.

Great grill how much?

$99 BIN from ebay. Shipped from Riverside for $10 so it got here the next day! The brackets didn't line up though so I had to make my own. No big deal although it took a few hours to get it right.

My new wheels will be flat black so the large chrome parts had to go- not too big on bling myself but I also don't want the full on monochrome look. I like to mix it up a bit. The chrome handles and mirror caps were going to be painted too but I'll wait to see how it looks with the wheels.

i like it. you want to paint mine too? :)

looks like I have something to strive for or I can just take it somewhere and have them paint it..

do you know what the total cost was for eveything.. like paint and clear and all that???
I used to be a custom painter in the past so I have all the equipment and most of the materials already, like a compressor, spray guns, clear, activators, tons of colors, safety equipment, etc. Professional finishes can be very expensive, and you have to buy them in pint/quart/gallon sizes. I spent about $150 in finishes alone for this project, but that leaves me with enough primer, paint and clearcoat to spray the rear bumper, grille, engine cover, and other stuff. I also had to fix a nasty dent on my bumper which I did with some of the tools I have.

If you don't have any of the equipment or haven't sprayed automotive finishes before (through a spray gun) then I wouldn't recommend practicing on your Titan. Let a body shop do it. Mixing, spraying, colorsanding, and buffing are all pretty tricky if you haven't done it before. I got plenty of bodywork practice on my old toyota and learned how to shave stuff and fix dings, so I feel fine working on my new ride.

Is that some sort of alien peeking around the corner of your house, or is it just a California kinda tree? None like it, alien or tree, in my neck of the woods.

Anyway, your truck looks great. You're obviously clever and have plenty of skill in that area.

Well done,
KAP
