So, does this increase mileage? In another post it was stated that the mod allows more time for fuel to burn which would seem to lead to increased efficiency as well, considering driving conditions/habits haven't changed. Any long term issues against doing this?

I stopped in and asked about the 2 degree timing advance. "NOPE! It can't be done!" was my reply. "The ECU wont let you".

"I beg to differ," I said. "It's the talk of the internet forums."

"Well maybe they say you can do it on the internet but it cant be adjusted. It's all controlled by computer" she said.

I continued to tell her that poeple state they pay about $70 and it takes about 5 minutes and bingo...a satisfied customer!

She said "well, we charge $120 an hour and I've never had anyone ask to have it done.

Then she grabbed a tech and he continued to back her up saying that it might be possible but there is no way to do this using thier machine. They stated they used a Consult 2.

AM I MISSING SOMETHING? Isn't that the same one other dealers using to do the mod?

What can I do to convince my service department that this can be done?
I see your biggest problem here. You said "SHE"!! End of story!!

You know, I've tried two dealerships here in OC. Neither one will do it. I even said that I would bring them the instructions. Both dealerships said the same thing, that eventually the timing will adjust back.

sorry to but in guys, but you have to ask yourself, the pros and cons of this change, if it's such a great benefit, why did the factory choose not to advance it.

Well, old chevys were set at a factory standard, but yet people changed those setting to get better performance. Same as this.

After my frustraiting experience with the dealer I was going to find someone else to do the work but I did have some warranty work to do. So I dropped of the truck today. I went in armed with the print out of instructions for the timing advance but I let it go. I didn't bring it up with her. I could tell she wasn't in the mood to argue. So tonight I went in to pick up my truck and well....she had allready left and a tech asked to help me. I told him I was here to pick up my truck. I found out he was the one that worked on it and I asked him about the timing advance. He said lets give it a try. It took 5 minutes! Exactly as the instructions said! He said let me know if it works. If it gives you problems swing by and I'll reset it for you. Now thats service!

Right off the bat I noticed the difference. No more flat spot in the acceleration! Way better response! Great mod.

I'm going to swing by and slip him a $20. I wish I could mention his name and where he works but I don't know if he'd get in trouble for satisfying a good customer who's bought 3 cars from his boss!

How does it affect gas mileage?

Most likely it has to do with emissions.

Does anyone have a link to the original posting that had the "destructions"?

my opinion on this, though I have no proof yet, is that they did it to differentiate the engine from the QX56. I have a strong feeling that the infiniti has the 2 degree advance done from the factory. My aunt has a QX, but I dont have a service dept nearby where i am comfortable enough asking them to hook up a consult to verify my theory.

so far no dealer that i have spoken too here in new york wants to touch this damn.:crying:
if you're up for a road trip to get it down, Turnersville Nissan in south jersey was doing them at the meet. 20 or 25 bucks (cant remember), great deal!

If you're intererest, contact Brian (jerseyparts) www.yournissanparts.com

i WOULD LIKE THE LINK TO THE ORGINAL INSTRUCTIONS ALSO.

tHANKS!!

I'm with you, PuvMan,

I think that, and premium fuel is the difference. They're getting 10 more HP out of the same engine somehow....

torque management..

They set the truck at the LOWEST setting possible to operate-period. It has to do with knock and pre-detonation, and all that stuff, but 15* TDC is where the timing needs to be to operate. 17* is where it needs to be to for more optimum operation, like it the Inifiniti version.
And for those that think it would/will harm the truck-it won't. Someone on here, don't remember who, tried 4* and it wouldn't take. The ECU adjusted it back to 15*.

I've been running the 2* advance timing since the Jersey meet and everything seems fine to me. When I hit the gas now there is no hesitation. As far as gas mileage goes it's the same as it was. Course now i hit the throttle a little harder now and then just to feel this 5000lb+ truck jump off the line. Man I love the power.

Anyone know if any dealers in Arizona are doing this????
I know your not real close to Tucson but I know the Sales Manager of a local Nissan dealer here in Tucson. I will be calling him this weekend and asking about this. Will PM you with his answer and price.

I just got this done at Beaverton Nissan in the Portland area. The idle learning adjustment after bumping the timing up really made a difference also.
The exhaust sounds different at part throttle. 90 bucks.
