Oh also to shed some light on what was said about how long the vehicle was on the lot. Customers want a Salesman with knowledge. Otherwise that salesman is useless. Especially if the customer has done plenty of internet research. Therefor rather than say the horrible words of "I dont know" many sales man will so stupid things to avoid not knowing. We are the scum of the earth being car salesman, but it is even worse if we dont know an answer to a question. It isnt necassarily like we are lieing. What you rather hear in response to your question? I dont know or I believe about 3 weeks or so. Now I do agree that if a dealer is being obviously dishonest then just walk away. By the way guys. I am not a greaseball salesman. I am not trying to make any money off of you. So if anyone is out in the high desert in So Cal then please feel free to ask me some questions or even stop by! Hopefully we will have a new store soon too! It looks massive and it is almost finished being built!

Regarding that particular case, I saw that same car at the dealership almost everyday for over 3 months but I did not tell the salesman this----I even examined it in detail and I knew more about the vehicle than the salesman---where it was manufactured(which plant), when the last one was built down to the day and its colour, even the point of how much profit he was going to make off of me. He told me he has been working at that dealership for the past 8 years and was the top salesman there and he was there and knew when that car came in just 3 weeks ago. There are several other games he tried to play with me before I walked off, he made one comment during our discussion that my product knowledge was outstanding--more than the ordinary customer. No disrespect to you and I am sure you are not like that but I am familiar with a lot of the tactics that can be played at the dealership to get money off of you from the salesman to the finance department.

dealer fees are a necessary evil....they can be as high as $900 or $1000 on a vehicle...these fees sometimes include....

destination charges

dealer holdback and other stuff...."holdback" is money that is covered in a vehicle's price to pay dealership fees....such as advertising, electricity....etc...

this money is there to allow the dealer to sell the vehicles at low prices and still be able to not "lose" money and be able to pay the rent so to speak...

Dealerships generally make very little money and a new vehicle sale...people don't understand that....they usually only make money through manufacturer's incentives and stuff of that nature....

if you like the truck and feel that the selling price is competitive...BUY IT...

I just bought a new one myself from the dealer I work at......
Destination charges are already on the sticker. They are NOT part of the fees discussed in this issue. If they are an honest dealership they will break down the fees.

Destination charge for my area is $705 and it's already included on the price, here is a breakdown of the "out the door" cost for me:

MSRP: $26,825 (Including options)

$20,650 = Price Quoted
$600 + Dealer's Fees
$21,250 = Real Price
$195 + Tag Fees
$1,501.15 + Taxes
$22,946.15 = Total cost

If the $600 are waived I was thinking of a down payment of the sum of Tax+Tag and financing the $20,650, that's almost $400/month on a 5 year/5.49% loan, around $26K for everything(still below MSRP).

That is an excellent deal. I know for a fact that the dealer made very little on my deal (I had gone about two levels above the salesman, and ended up talking to him quite a bit afterwards since he also had a Titan). I paid 24k with all the taxes and fees and stuff... and I had the Utility bed package and Preferred package, which I wanted.

What if the salesman decided to eliminate the $600 fee altogether. Instead, he increased the sales price of the truck by $600. Would you buy it then?
That's what he told me about other dealers that may remove the fees but raise the price to make up for it.

I truly understand that any business must make a profit to stay alive, but in the case of car dealers they have so many ways to profit that sometimes not even the managers will know about it.

In any case, I really want this Titan and I'm going back this weekend to see what I could get out of them, if they don't lower the fees at least the should offer me some dealer installed option or something to make up for the +$600.

Ya I completely understand. Even when I see a customer leave all frustrated from a "veteran" salesman, I approach them and give them my # so they can talk to a "real" person that is selling them a car. I cant stand those dang salesman who play the games!

i think the total price(no matter how you get there) is your ultimate decision! the price you have recieved is excellent and i would have taken that deal. the 600 probably includes a doc fee as they call it and prep for the car and profit for the dealer...the dealer has to make some money and if even if the whole 600 is profit...you my friend have done a great job. if thats the exact truck you want that 600 is nothing if you have to take a second choice because you find that truck is gone. i think you got an excellent price even with the 600. that fee sounds a little high but if there selling at 3% under invoice they have to make a little money???

My math skills aren't the greatest, but best I can figure, you’re getting the truck for around $125 under invoice before rebate. IMHO that's a good deal for walking onto the lot. I went to a couple of dealers to get an idea what the lot sales people would offer. Both dealers’ sales people told me the best they could do was employee pricing which was $100 over invoice.

I contacted the internet manager of one of those dealerships (same guy we bought my wife's car from) to see if he could match the lowball offer I had received from a third dealer's internet manager. He came down to $200 under invoice after much consternation, but was still $300 off the mark.

I've had some really bad experiences with car lot salesmen & refuse to deal with them anymore (no offense intended). I only deal with internet sales managers, so that the deal is done when I finally walk on the lot to pick up my new vehicle.

For over a month I been trying to get the best deal as possible on a '06 KC/SE(Smoke or Black) with bedliner, and today one of my local dealers have what I was looking for a great price of $20,650, that's after the $2750 rebate and 3% under invoice. But I backed down when they tried to charged me $600 on dealer's fees, don't know if I did the right thing since the rebate expires today, any advices?
In the grand scheme of things, the $600.00 line item is a small issue compared to the very good price you're getting. There is nothing wrong with the dealer getting a profit. And the price you're quoted sounds extremely reasonable.

I got a very good deal on my truck and paid dealer fees (a little less than yours). I have a business acquaintance that owns a Ford dealer. They do fairly well, but you'd be surprised at what the bottom line is for dealers. It's profitable...but not excessively so. They actually make much more money on the used cars than the new cars.

Go get your truck.

Perhaps someone can tell me what it is I'm doing wrong.

I am in the market for a Titan. It doesnt have to be new, in fact I dont mind buying used as long as the price is right and truck is right, but Im looking at used vehicles for the prices you guys seem to be buying new vehicles for.

I want an SE Crew Cab pickup with the factory tow package, factory bed liner and utility track.

I found an '04 with about 30k miles on it for 18k today and bought it, but seriously where are you finding trucks for those prices?

I found my truck for 29k (brand new) and talked them down to 24k including taxes and fees. You have to know how to haggle... I knocked my monthly payments down quite a bit... then knocked down the payment term by an entire year.

I told them repeatedly I wasn't going to buy that day under any circumstances... they knew I was playing hardball. Ended up climbing the chain all the way to the general manager before scoring a great deal on exactly the truck I wanted.

I don't know where you are located, but if you want to PM me I can give you the # of the most honest, helpful salesman I have ever known. I can add weight to this as I am a former truck salesman. I know all the junk they pull and I got the right deal the first time.

I just went through thier internet sales department. No haggling. Price on any titan I wanted was Invoice and then minus my trade and then rebates.

I don't even bother looking at sticker price as I won't pay anything above invoice.
