Dear Titan Performance Crew,

Hey, I wanted to post my results of what I believe to be the "answer" to the thermostat issue. Case resolved!!!!

New nominal temperatures as recorded by UPRev Cipher:

Temp range from 185.3-194.6

Perfect operating range for a V8 to get max efficiency and high enough temps not to have the timing retard. Thank god!!!!

I ran the truck "warmed up" hard. That is my operating temp range. It effectively is 190 - 195 running the vehicle "hard" and about 186-192 running it under normal driving conditions.

The answer to your cooling issues as far as the thermostat issues are concerned are resolved by doing the following:

A. Going to Napa Auto Parts and getting the Napa brand 170 degree thermostat for the Nissan Titan. Mine is 2004 year model vehicle.

B. Porting the thermostat with two 3/16" holes directly on each side of the valve itself. Not the housing!!!

C. One bottle of Redline Water Wetter.

To me this is the perfect setup on the thermostat. Perfect operating temps. I hope you guys benefit and post your own results.

I would highly recommend the TB coolant bypass mod as well while performing this.

Total Actual Labor Time is about 20-30 minutes max!!!!

Good luck guys!!!!!

Sounds good man, but lets see how well it works in the long run.

Casey :smoke:

Did you do the TB mod before or after the s/c install?

I didn't know there was an "issue" with the thermostat!??!?!

I am waiting on some pics of this Heavy Modified Truck!!

I think this is good information:
What is the part number for the Thermostat at Napa?

I solved the thermostat issue as well but did not need the holes in the body. Find my post "170F Thermostat installed". A Houston member posted at CT that his temps last week got to 230F where as mine only 200F. So It's a good mod for me. Maybe you can figure out how to trick the ECU to think it's 140-175F so we can just get rid of it all together?

Saw that you have Cipher that's great can you send me some of the files so I can compare yours with mine? PM me your email address would ya. Really like to see the 1/4 miles runs you've surely logged so i can compare to mine N20 logs.

Don't know the Napa part #. I threw the box away. 190 is an ideal temp for efficient operation of a V8 type motor. The issue was finding a setup that produces coolant temps that average in around 190 F.

I just asked for a 170 thermostat. If your coolant temp is below 176 the Titan pulls timing. I want the truck as cool as possible with the S/C, but not cooler than 176F.

I did the TB throttle bypass post S/C, so it works fine. Cooler TB = Colder Air/Denser Air = Faster!!!

I purchased a hood scoop and would like to keep the air intake temp as cool as possible by also doing a little water/meth injection. That should give me the coldest air intake charge.

Finding an efficient grll that allows alot of airflow is also an issue for me, short of just removing the grills!!!!

Good luck!!!

I see several flaws in your mod. First, a 170 Thermostat should keep the truck under 190 no matter what. Drilling two holes that are basically 1/4 in. in diameter will cause you more problems than they will fix. In summer heat it won't allow the Anit-Freeze to cool long enough, thus high temps. In the winter it will not keep the coolant warm enough for proper performance. This is proven!

OK check out these files using a stock thermastat. I think it might be reversed based upon this data. Look at the 6sec run vs the last run and look at 40mph range of both files. These were done back to back from startup.

Would you PM me a pic of the install please. I have the parts to do it, but with the s/c in the way I don't feel like trying to find the perfect spot. Do you have the ball valve so that you can switch between on and off?

Thrust_titan has an TB intercooler setup. You might want to check him out.
