I have the P0420 and 430, been reading all day about how to fix this, and think I have just about as many questions as I do answers, so can someone dumb it down for me?

I believe I have 2 main options, but option B there are about 243 sub options.
A. replace with OEM manifolds/cats
B. replace with headers, new b-pipes, and a tune? If so, what do I need to look for?

The issue is with option B, my wife is already going to be ticked at me for having to spend the $550 for the manifolds, so talking her into another grand will be incredibly difficult.

Thanks in advance!

Your Truck is out of emissions warranty if it is an 04.....so....headers tune and cat back is going to actually be cheaper and more bullet proof than replacing with stock manifolds. Just my 2 cents on it.

I know that it is out of the warranty, but from the looks of it, headers, tune, and catback would be $1500 ish, while the OEM manifolds would be $550 (I can do the install myself)....and I know it isn't a long term fix by any means, but something that can get me by for a little bit, right?

Go with the eastern manifolds. I replaced mine last week it was $305 per side from rockauto. 200 miles and no check engine light. I have a CA rated truck and these are only Federal but I live in utah so I am HOPING to pass emissions next year. Labor was $360 a side at a local shop. They all charge 4 hours per side. I didn't want to do it myself.

Doesn't sound too bad. I just want to CHEAPEST fix that won't potentially blow up the engine, I don't care if it is temporary or not...I figure in a couple months I can do the perma-fix, but I just started a business so I am trying to keep 100% of my free money going towards that or as a back up for bills just in case.

So if there are any tips on a temporary fix...I am all ears

Weld it, my exhaust shops said welding only fixes it for a few months and the labor cost isn't worth it. My crack was under my manifold so if they welded it they'd have to remove it. If the crack is on top then you might be ok, but I wouldn't bother welding it.

Do it right the first time and you won't have to worry about doing it again... Cajun Bpipes | shreveport, LA 71129 check us out, give us a call and Jeff will talk you through all the different options.

Nissan replacement manifolds are $$$$$ and the aftermarket OEM replacements are JUNK. For the cost of labor to R&R the manifolds its not worth it even think about a temporary fix. You don't have to upgrade the entire exhaust at once; there are plenty of guys on here running completely stock except for the headers and an Uprev tune

I found a used set of Doug Thorley LT headers for $300....so I like this idea for now, and then eventually will work down the exhaust line.
When it comes to the Uprev...I have only heard of this tune since looking up this problem. With my previous vehicles Superchips was always the big thing, does superchips not do the tune that is needed? And WHY is there a tune needed?

Superchips is just a generic one size fits all canned tune; Uprev is the only one that lets us custom tune the fuel maps (among other things) and make sure its not running too lean (common after long tube headers).

The tune is needed because by deleting the primary cats you're drastically changing how the engine breathes and runs, and the stock ECU doesn't know how to handle it correctly.

Stay away from aftermarket or oem manifolds if you plan to keep the truck. If you go that route you will be back to square one soon and the labor involved to do this job again also. The Cajun stage one package is the best fix for the money on the market. Give me a call for details, my cell is listed on the website. Do your research before you spend a dime and welding the oem manifolds is a very temporary fix and not worth the labor involved.

Thorley's have been known to crack so make sure of that before you spend the dime there.

You can fix it through Joe and Jeff at Cajun Bpipes for right at 1000$ if you do your own install. JBA long tubes and uprev and your done up right. You will also get better gas mileage and your truck will run better than new. I did several months of research when I found my manifolds were cracked and what the dealership wanted to replace them. Checked every brand online combined with price matching and taking notes to find the best deal on the planet. This is what works for these trucks, just do it!
