I'm truly shocked by these post. Coming from an 8 speed GM, this 7 speed is near flawless. My buddy is a master tech at Infiniti. He mentioned that this is the same 7 speed that has been in the Infiniti QX56 for years and it's bullet proof.
My GM wanted to shift in to 2nd at 5 mph. If cruising slow in a parking lot, the clunk you felt made it seem like the transmission would fall out. it would shift into 3rd by 12 mph, and 4th by 21 mph. If stuck in traffic and cruising between 15- 25 mph per hours, it couldn't decide if it should be in 2nd or 3rd or 4th. It would clunk back and forth between the three. It was the most annoying thing you could ever feel in a vehicle.
The trans also had a ridiculous amount of backlash shifting down to 1st. Coming to a complete stop, the trans would bang into 1st gear. And God forbid if you took off from dead stop and had to suddenly brake, the bang would make you think the transmission exploded.
The GM's also would turn off 4 cylinders, and jump up to a higher gear to improve fuel economy. This would cause an uneven load on the trans making the engine/trans shudder.
And they all drove this way. Every single one. Some took a couple 1000 miles to settle into the clunking. but eventually, they all did it. And GM's response is that it's perfectly normal. Some folks eventually get the torque converter replaced or the get their transmission reflashed into "learn mode". All of these help for a few thousand miles.
This was my biggest reason for going to the Nissan. I think the 7 speed is amazing compared to GM's 8 speed. GM is the big winner in fuel economy, but at the expense of erratic shifting. My Titan was getting 16-17ish mpg on the HWY at 75 mph. That's painful. I easily got 21 mpg at 75 mph in the GM.
I only have 400 mile on the Titan. I hope this improves....a lot.
