I got new rotors and brakes pads under the brake judder warranty fix at 3K miles. I have close to 10K miles now and I'm noticing that the front brake pads are scroring grooves into my rotors. Deep enough where you can feel them with your fingertips.

I took it in to the dealer and the service tech said it was perfectly normal. He said there is nothing they can do about it (under warranty) and added that having grooves in the rotors actually makes the brakes work better. Something about it having more surface area for the pads to grip. However, I'm not buying it. Grooved rotors will just make the pads wear down that much faster and require the rotors to be turned even thinner when they get bad enough.

The grooves are not symmetrical on the rotor face though. Just two separate wide grooves near the top edge of the rotor about 1/4" wide on both front rotors. The areas below and above are smooth. Maybe the pads are defective?

Since I have about a year left under the 3year/36K mile factory warranty, can I get the dealer to do anything about it?

Also, I believe they made a part no. change update to the front brake pads under the brake judder fix. I have the first issue brake pads.q

My dealer in So. Cal. told me that since my truck did not have brake judder, that it was not covered under warranty. The calipers were sticking and causing the pads to wear prematurely and groving the rotors.

Well no he's actually right.. Havn't you heard the term "Drilled and slotted rotors?" It might make your brake pads wear down a LITTLE bit faster, but gives you a little extra edge on stoppage power..

One thing I know is some brake pads have a little wire in them that will make a scratching noise to signal your pads being low, but idk if that's the case.. Sry

OEM rotors are not drilled and slotted.

I was told that my 04 brakes are covered for life now. Is that true for the 05's also? I'd push the issue -- because Nissan knows that it was a major problem. Not to mention it is a safety issue and could have been a major recall of every darn truck they sold. Rather they have put a band-aid on it -- and from my experience extended the brake warranty for life. Don't know if that warranty follows for the guy who buys used.
