Just bought a 2010 KC 4WD Titan from a used car dealer, with an unfortunate CEL problem. I'm wrestling with the local Nissan dealer, too. Hope to get some good insights on this forum! I really like the truck, but...

Buying used with a CEL on is sometimes a real crapshoot. CEL can be from any one of a large number of problems; what's your return window?
Make sure the dealer gets it troubleshot before that window closes...

Would hate to see you get stuck with something that's going to be problematic. Seriously, any big red flags, take it back.

Although truck couldn’t pass inspection with CEL on, I’m not sure dealer has any obligation to take it back. They did stipulate they would fix the fault based on the code P0850 but could not do so in house. They agreed verbally to reimburse for repairs. Nissan dealer says it’s $3K to fix.

Possible cause.

A Nissan Titan Powertrain Control Module Replacement costs between $888 and $931 on average.

If the dealer said they would fix it, who cares? Tell the shop to fix it and send the dealer the bill. Done and done.
