After putting 314,000 miles (bought with 92k) on my 04 LE, I've decided it's time for my first new truck. I have a 25' boat that I am rebuilding and a 16' utility trailer that I regularly tow with my 04, among other smaller trailers as needed. I am looking at the 2020 XD as well as the Regular Titan Crew Cabs. The trim levels that I like are the Pro4X and the Platinum. Both with the moon roof and the utility packages. I also think that the 18" wheels give a better ride than the 20" ones do.

Here is my conundrum. Is the XD worth the extra money? And the extra effort to find one? Does it actually tow any better than the regular Titan? Although my trailers do not live behind my 04, some would argue that they do. I probably tow something 2-3 times a month, sometimes more. With the 2021's coming out, I can still get a few good deals on the 20's.

Anyone with info, please chime in.

Thanks for the help.

I think the real question is are you going to push towing 9,000lbs that often, if so, get an XD. If you didn't use your current XD to its potential then get a non-XD Titan. I have had 4,500 behind my 2020 P4X with no issues. That 5.6 has plenty of torque for what I need and since its the only engine offered now I would save the money.

I have a new 2020 P4X and just got finished towing a little over 500 miles round trip with my 25' boat. It pulled the boat just fine at 70 mph @ 8mpg. This was all on flat Florida pavement. If you tow a lot, I would go with the XD but 2-3 times a month I would go with the gasser but is also depends how far you tow.
Also, I went from an 2017 4x2 SL with 20's to 18" on the P4X and I can tell you first hand the 18's ride a lot nicer. There is definitely a noticeable, for the better difference.

You also need to understand that the XD is a lot longer than the regular titan, which does not help if you live in the city or areas where space is tight. Also, regarding the XD, being that it is heavier, the gas mileage will be worse than than regular Titan. It would be helpful if we also knew the weight of the stuff that you intend to tow with. Since you are coming from a 1st gen Titan, my best advice is that you test drive both vehicles and see which one you like better. Nissan will also discontinue the production of the NV series by summer 2021, which the Titan XD is based on so you may want to keep that into consideration.

Thanks for the replies. About the most I've towed has been around 6,000#. So I will be crossing the XD off of the list. The boat and trailer (both axles have brakes) should weigh in around 5,500#. Utility trailer is rated at 7,000# max. I did drive an XD, didn't really notice the extra length while driving or backing it up. Long trips would probably be similar, 500 miles or so.

I am leaning a bit more towards the ProX, but I do really, really, really like the interior of the PR. Just saying. But, I'm thinking that the a lot nice interior isn't quite worth the extra money.

Pro4!!! Can never go wrong with black on black with red stitching, and Bilsteins

The XD gets significantly worse gas mileage than the non. It's not just the weight, but also the gearing. Personally i thought the interior of the platinum was unattractive and went with the p4x fully loaded.

It is all about what YOU like. I also did not like the interior in the platinum. They haven't changed the puffy squares in the seat which I was hoping they would for 2020. Also, the seat color selection doesn't lend to enough options. Just my opinion. Love the look of the rest of the platinum!

I found out late yesterday afternoon that the Platinum has nothing more than the standard shocks that the S, SV, and the SL have. Doesn't have the better Bilsteins that the P4X has.

After considering all of the factors involved, I went with the Platinum for several reasons. I do like the interior. Over the last 9 years, I've only used the rear electric locker 2 or 3 times so I nixed the locker. Would need to get three packages to get what I wanted on the Pro4X, where it was mostly included or upgraded on the Platinum. On either one I would have to have to add the moonroof package. And I think I got a pretty damn good deal on the Platinum, which they also took my 2wd frontier for a trade.
