So another update, got both headers in, yesss finally. On the drivers side I had to use an extension swivel which was pretty sketch cause a couple bolts would get stuck and I wasn't sure if it was the slop in the swivel or if I was tearing threads on the studs, which I basically have PTSD about since its aluminum and when i was younger I stripped a lot of bolts. 😆😭
It was also super hard to clean the block where the gasket goes, I used steel wool eventually and that got it pretty good and some areas I used some 400 grit sand paper very very lightly so as to not scratch anything. On the drivers side I couldn't get it even close to as clean as the passenger side.
Interesting finds so far, it seems like this exhaust job was done once before by the original owner, since the flange nuts were different, some clearly OEM, and others clearly aftermarket. That is on the one that I didn't have one of them done myself.
Also, the down stream gasket were completely missing, unless I misunderstand something. 🤔
The last thing that I noticed was the gasket on the manifold that I had changed was hammered, I will share photos of that as well. Now that I think about it... where is the other old gasket... 🤔 The one in the photos though I cant imagine how it could get corroded like that? I almost wonder if it wasn't even bolts down enough by the mechanic that did it.
This job is probably easily the most challenging mechanic job I have done. I've spent a lot of time waiting for parts and getting tools that I didn't think I would need, so make sure if you are reading this and considering doing the job, prep, prep, prep. I even did what I thought was enough prep and wasn't even close ha.
Tomorrow ill lower the engine and bolt the mounts back up. Then work on the downstream gaskets, remount the exhaust and then I am just waiting for the Walker o2 sensors. 🥳 Will be super nice to finally have this crappy issue fixed for good.
