so i have a 04 4x4 with 147k miles on stock headers and all stock exhaust except for a borla muffler. I was driving the other day and had complete power loss the truck wouldn't go over 25mph with the pedal to floor. A tow to the dealership they say I have "clogged cats" both fronts.

This is a work/pos/barn/off-road truck this is not my primary vehicle anymore so I don't need to spend a bunch of money on name brand parts like jba cajun etc I don't mind buying ****ter chinese parts.

Does anyone have a set of headers with cats they would recommend under $450?

I heard from an idiot that bought some chinese headers that he didnt need a tune bc they were stock size or something like that? Will I NEED a tune after the header install?

I plan on just cutting out the rear cats and have exhaust shop do small custom work.

Thanks for your feedback!!

The real problem is the cost of labor to install headers and possibly having to do it twice. I've talked to plenty of guys who went with the cheap OEM replacement knockoff headers to save a few bucks up front and were back under it a couple months later fixing it again. Dorman etc might warranty the actual header but you are on your own for the labor, which is more than the cost of the parts. If you don't have emissions testing the cheapest and most reliable option is JBA headers and Uprev tune, keep everything else stock. No more cracks and it will run better than ever before.

OEM manifolds are more than $1000 a side. JBA headers are $450 total. Toss another $500-ish for a tune from seymore, do the work yourself in a day, and you're done for less than the cost of one manifold.

welll i ordered some really cheap headers lol $112 for 304 ss no name bs. Got on here and saw the replies and was sold with going with jba. So

I am ordering the jba 6400S and install this week, I plan on doing cajun b pipes or maybe custom ones catless. and uprev following that.

my question now is how long can i get away running jba headers on stock b pipes without uprev?

Would it drive home fine?

Yea it will start run and drive fine. You may or may not have the CEL, some do, some don't. I tried to ride mine without uprev and it took a couple days for the CEL to show face, but it did show up. I would strongly recommend getting UpRev as soon as possible. Your junk will run better and you'll get the most out of the headers. Remember to use OEM gaskets and throw away the supplied JBA gaskets.

Thanks guys I have 2 maybe 3 more questions about this topic so

1. i am a 29 y/o male with one small 64pc ratchet set and some random tools lying around. I can go buy jackstands and a jack, my neighbor has never turned a wrench on a titan...I was quoted 575 for the header install....do you think this is doable between youtube videos, threads on here, and a weekend?

2. Uprev- while i dont know much about this i believe i read you pay the 500 or 600 whatever and they send something to you to plug in your truck which will record how you normally drive? well if i just replaced the headers and cant get it over 3k RPM would this be a good time to measure how i drive for a tune? Im confused on that aspect. The closest shop on uprev site is about 2hrs south so idk what to do about this part.

3. Alright guys that basically sums it up for me. JBA headers installed this week, next week order b pipe and have installed and hopefully no more than 2 weeks after that for uprev. I plan on running full catless since im in FLA and cannot wait to hear all those cards in spoke singing like a out of whack orchestra J/KKKK!

Message seymore about UpRev, get it from him. He'll walk you through the process like he's done 1000 times for the rest of us.

It can be done but a lot of people on here have said it is a real *****. I have always done everything on all my vehicles, but if/when I get to this point again I'll let someone else suffer on this job.

You will need some extensions and some swivels for your sockets. Some of those header bolts require a contortionist to reach. Also, take the wheel liners off - easier access. Driver's side is the biotch with the steering and brake lines in the way.

I had the luxury of using a lift at a friend's professional garage. Made it a bit easier, but the main thing is sitting in a wheelwell turning the wrench. Two friends and I did it in 5 hours on my 4x4, so it can be done... you just need patience.

$575 isn't bad at all. You're going to need to BUY a good $200 worth of tools to do the job. So paying someone else to do it sounds pretty good. Of course, if they don't actually know what they're doing it could be you doing it all over again the right way.

I replaced mine with Magnaflow... Love them.

When I replaced mine, I removed one side motor mount and jacked the engine up a little.
It made the job much easier, just that extra space to work in.
Do the drivers side first. It is a PITA. Once it is done and back together, then you move to the right side, it will be a breeze!

It does not take much tool wise to do this job. Hell...a 14mm ratcheting wrench is just about the only hand tool needed. A few 14mm 6 point sockets and quality 3/8 drive ratchet, floor jack and jack stands will do it.

I found the 14 ratcheting wrench to be invaluable. Spots that a socket couldn't reach, the wrench would. But he still needs the jack stands and floor jack. The jack stands are optional but do allow the front suspension to droop making it easier to get at things as I recall.

This. Every one who has done this is happy.
