Hi all,

So Im really torn between the two trucks. The titan is an LE with 79k miles for just over 10k and the denali has 107k for just over 18k. I was worried the titans bed at first but it turns out it will fit any of my dirtbikes or sportbikes if I don't take the trailer. Then I just read that the denali's bed is 5 3/4 ft. Denali has a 6.2L V8 with 6 speed tranny with HP and torque over 400 but its max towing is less than the titan. I know that the max towing numbers they list aren't so much about moving the load as it is about stopping and controlling but the max I can see me towing is a 7000# enclosed trailer if I upgrade to it, to store my bikes and camp out of at the track. I have a 20ft bass boat that Im sure either truck will pull with ease as it may be 5.5k loaded. I currently have an 03 expedition (5.4) that is getting retired with 209k on the odometer. It towed ok but I want more. Its getting retired because I found a good bit of rust where the body meets the frame and its getting to the point where Im wrenching on it more than I drive it with all the little stuff going out. The motor will come out and I will rebuild it over the winter and throw it in a convertible mustang when I find a good chassis. Two things I really want are longevity and that when I hit the gas I want it to go whether Im towing or not. I feel like Im leaning more towards the titan because I feel better about the design of the motor but its hard to look away from a 6.2 with a cushy interior when it takes nothing more than a change in wind direction to convince me to gas up, hook up, and drive up to 16 hours.

What would you do?

You came to a Titan forum, so I'm guessing you know what to expect. In any case I'll chime in.

I've owned every brand of truck minus a Toyota. The Chevy that I had was a good little truck, but for me (and the way I like to drive (like an idiot)), the Titan would be my choice. Granted it looks long in the tooth, but overall it's a wonderful truck. The aftermarket support isn't there like you have with other brands, but in all honesty what you might need to upgrade is available. The engine is known to last a very long time with normal maintenance, and the minor issues with the pre-VVT Titans again call all be fixed easily. My vote would be for the Titan. Get it and then get some headers, intake, full exhaust, UpRev, traction bars, upgraded intake plenum, truetrack, lift kit, coilovers, etc, etc, etc, and then call it a day.

Well let's see here. The Denali has quite a bit more miles and is more expensive but luxurious. I feel the Titan is more of a down a dirty truck. Gm trucks have very clunky, slow to respond trannys. I had one. The Titans tranny has NEVER hiccup ed on me or felt confused as to what I wanted from it. Also, idk about the 6.2 but the 5.3 engines were very sluggish and packed with torque management systems taking away the fun factor. They both have their issues. The Titan has a very solid engine/tranny combo that is hard to match. It's so under appreciated because it's very strong and smooth.

Having driven my friends semi-well maintained Sierra Denali (I think it's a 2008?) and my 2011 Titan, I'd say the GMC. I love my Titan, but unless you're mechanically inclined and don't mind getting down and dirty from time to time - I'd never recommend at 2004 Titan to anyone. The stock power that GMC has is above and beyond even a somewhat modded Titan.

I have owned 2 different 2004 Titans and both were/are excellent trucks. I'm up to almost 140k on mine now. For the OP, that is a no brainer. You are saving 40k Mike's and 8k dollars. That would pay for a lot if repairs.

I have owned every truck imaginable. I'm no Fanboy of anything, just good stuff. The Titan is a good truck. Most trucks today, the difference between them is so slight and on the margins that you can hardly go wrong, other than on price. GM and Ford make good trucks too but the prices suck, mostly because of fanboys.

Thanks All. Ive decided to stick with a Titan after another drive of the two vehicles and a talk with my mechanic, who is a chevy fan. the denali was nice, comfy, and peppy but had a 6.0 instead of the 6.2 it was supposed to have so someone did a swap. The salesmen told me that's what it was supposed to have and probably didn't like me showing up with a flashlight and mirror but whatever. He was a moron. The titan I drove was just fun. It felt better. My mechanic said he loves his chevys but titan is a bad *** truck. Another mechanic told me the titan is like a navy seal; could take anything in any environment. The denali is like a weight lifter; he can move weight and may look bad *** but cant run or operate out of his compound movements. LoL I thought that was funny as I just left the gym. Unfortunaly I waitied an hour too long because when I went back to get the titan it was gone so now Im looking for another.

Chevy is the last on my list now and i use to be a chevy guy. Nissan hands down! 178k on my 05 and its been great with few issues at all. A chevy will be rattling and popping by 40k miles and basically living in the stealership service center.

Of course after reading all the responses, l guess you know what you should do. Everyone on Titan talk has a high IQ along with a bunch of common sense. That's why we own Titans. If you like working on vehicles or paying someone to work on your vehicle, by all means get you a ghetto GM product. I hope you make the Titan choice.
