Hey I'm in the market for a new truck and saw an 05 that I believe is a pro-4x since it has the locking diff and an 07 LE. The 05 has approx 114k miles while the 07 has about 85k. This would be my first Nissan truck. I normally stick with Dodge but have always thought the titan would be a nice truck. The 07 is really nice and has a lot of features but no locking diff.

I'm not a huge off roader, but there have been times where a locking rear diff would have been very nice. Also they both have tow mode so does that mean they come with any beefier susp/trans/axle? Also does the pro4x have a lsd rear diff when is not locked or is it just an open diff until you lock it?

My biggest concern is that I've heard with the earlier models there was some issues with the rear axle and frame not holding up when towing.

Also I'm no mechanic but have found the ram pretty easy to work on granted it was a 98 and 03. How are the Titans to work on? Also any common issues I should be aware of?

Any help and feedback will be appreciated.
Thank you

I have an 06 Crew Cab LE and love it. I don't really do any off roading so the locking diff isn't important to me. Never heard of any frame or axle issues with towing. These things are a beast. If towing is important find out the rear end ratio on each truck and if it has the Big Tow package. That will have a 3.36 rear end and should be rated right around 9300 pounds. If it's not the big tow it will have a 2.96 rear end and be rated around 7300 lbs. There have been some issues with the rear end going bad and a lot of issues with cracked manifolds. Check into the manifold issue and pick which one you like best and best suits your needs. I love my Titan!

No such thing as a 05 pro 4x. They didnt start doing pro 4x models til 08. Id go with the 07 between the 05 and 07 hands down.

I have been a long time dodge/chysler man having owned 8 over the years, three of which were ram trucks. Imo the nissans are far better in build quality. I dont think I could go back to a ram after driving the Titan. This is my 1st Titan, but my last 4 vehicles have been nissan.

As for the two that you are looking at, the mileage is similar so either truck should be a good choice. I would take into consideration the price difference if any and the features offered.

You don't want the locking differential. The e-locker 4x4s were by far the biggest problem differentials in Titans. I've never heard anything about the frame and I've been in Titans 11 years. Between those 2 I would go for the 07 LE for sure.

The frame isn't an issue, not sure where you read it.

Like mentioned above, I would find an 08+, but if you're stuck on those two, get the 07. The vvt on the 07+ is way faster than the previous years.

The 05 is probably the off road package. I believe the Pro 4x replaced the "off road" package, but has the same features.

Someone correct me if I am mistaken.

The 08 also got a different front diff assembly.

I have an 05 and have replaced the front diff, and am at 83k miles. I have had the truck 4 years and have been very happy with it thus far. Even with some repairs I know may be ahead, I have been very happy with the Titan. I have driven many different pickups as company trucks (the Titan is my personal vehicle) and I would take the T over the Chevy, Ford, or dodge offerings. The only other I would consider is a Tundra, but they are $$$$$. If I needed more for towing, I would step into the 3/4 ton diesel market, but for my current needs the 1/2 is all I need.
