I need some help on a buying decision. I can't decide which truck to buy. With all the rebates and my GM credit card rebates I can buy a more expensive sierra 2500 hd for the same price as an 09 titan king cab 4x4 se. Both trucks are 4x4 ext cab with long bed and have power options. If anyone has experience with these 2 trucks please chime in. This will be my DD in bad weather. I intend to keep the vehicle for a long time so I am more interested in how they are to live with for the long haul, reliability, etc.

Also looked at a 2010 tundra, but it was much more expensive so I am not considering it.

the new duramax motor is nice, the company i work for has a 08 dually 3500hd and we have almost 100k on the clock so far and i love it. if i have a need for a diesel i would defiantly buy the gmc/chevy. if it is a 2500hd gaser then i would probally just go with the titan, unless you need the extra towing capability. the 6.0l motor is noisy and if you put any kind of exhaust on it you will have drone up the but. the only thig that quiets it down to livable levels is a 3" y pipe to a single in out 3" 18" magnaflow 5x8 oval muffler. the diesel will treat you well, the gaser will treat you well, if you do not need the towing capability of them then get a titan. but if you want the bigger nicer truck then get the gmc.

Reseach the rear axle limitations on the Titan, it is my only regret....my Titan will be ok, because I usually trade too often, anyway. If I was gonna buy to keep for more than three years I would have to rule out the Titan.

My boss has an 08 Sierra Z71 2500 (gas) and its a real nice truck. I like the styling of it inside and out. But I like my 08 Pro-4x better. Mines is a crew cab though. I would say it all boils down to personal preference and if you need an HD truck or if you can live with a 1/2 ton.

I guess it boils down to if you need the 3/4 ton or not. If not, then why not check out a new 1/2 ton Sierra with the 6.0? The 1/2 ton comparably equipped should be significantly cheaper than the 2500HD. Then a comparison to the Titan would be more apples-to-apples.

Believe it or not the 1/2 ton GM stuff is usually more than the 3/4 the way they all come optioned out from the factory. To be completely honest I am getting rid of my current silverado 1500 mainly because the 4 speed auto is a hunk of crap and that is the tranny still on most of the 1/2 tons. The 2500 has a 6 speed. The nissan has a 5 speed which would be nice also. I guess the only question left is will an 09 titan's axles hold up for 150,000 miles or so?

I really think the Titans axles would be fine for the truck that is used as a truck once in a while.

If you are gonna tow regularly, or lift it up and add larger tires, you will be limited by the Dana 44 's strength, and NO optional ratio's beyond the 2.94 and 3.36 from Nissan.

For what it is worth, I think the Titan looks much better. The GMC and all GM trucks are kind of plain Jane no thrills.

I just tried to buy a Sierra 1500 4x4 with the 6.0L Max Trailer Package yesterday. Checked my dealers inventory online (he had one with just the options I wanted) went down and we looked all over the lot for it. Found out it had just been dealer traded. There where only 6 others in CA. 6 with the worst combination's of colors and options that no one wants.

I talked with the dealership owner for a few minutes, the truck inventory has not had any new supply in months. Word is they haven't even started building 2010's yet. I'm not sure if this is just a GMC thing or if the Chevy supply is the same.

They made me a awesome trade-in offer on the Titan. Can't get the 0%/60 on the 2500's, but that's what I should be getting. I'm sitting still for now.

That makes sense because gm shut down truck production for 9 weeks a while back. It was all over the news. Seems like Nissan did something similar. I can't find many titans configured the way I want. Dealer said Nissan cut production also.

If the GMT900 is diesel, go for it. If not, stick with the T. Mine's been great, had a few minor issues here and there but FWIW I would try my hardest to NOT support the UAW, or GM since we own a part of them now and all (bailout).

Nissan did cut production, as did every other auto maker, but Nissan never stopped production, like GM did. GM did it because they were friggin' BANKRUPT, with no money until Obama gave them nearly $30B of our tax dollars to ensure the livelihood of the Dem's Unions. Same goes for Chrysler, but smaller dollar amount.

So the drama continues...The only Nissan dealer in town has nothing but crew cab short bed models. Almost all are LE or Pro4X 4x4s. They are a screaming deal and can get a pro4x crew short bed with leather for 9k under MSRP with rebates. The GMC dealer has an ext cab reg bed 4x4 gasser 2500hd with pretty much every option but leather that would be within 500 bucks. I'm going to test drive both back to back tomorrow and make a decision. I'm was leaning hard on the Titan, but I have never really been a fan of the really small bed.
Tomorrow is my b-day, so hopefully i come home with a present.
