look in the fuse box on the passenger side. every fuse has either BATT, IGN, or ACC next to it. find one that says BATT and put an add a fuse into the spot and run your wiring from there

^^^ What he said. I found a fuse that was live only when the ignition was on for my e-fans. Works great.

You're not going to find power only when the key is _off_. A vehicle's electrical system doesn't work that way. You'll find a source that is live only when the ignition is _on_ or you'll find a source that is live all the time.

I think that's why he was trying to tap into the red blinking light on the gauge cluster, as it only appears to have power (or illuminates) when vehicle is off. But i think it has power all the time, just illuminates when the doors are locked via remote key fob

You can do this with a 5$ parts store relay, or get a nice compact relay from an electronics store (or Amazon..)
Keep in mind that while power will ONLY be supplied when ignition is off (as requested), power WILL BE SUPPLIED when key is in accessory position.

Key in OFF or ACC = Device Powered
Key in Run and Start = Device Off

You can pull Ign1 power, and Battery power from the fuse panel...Get your meter or test light out...
Just make sure its IGN1 and not IGN2, as IGN2 will bounce on, off then on again when truck is cranked.
