Hey guys! Ive read all the forums about doing the rear vent mod but I look at mine and this is what I see. I got the truck used at 121,000 miles and it now has 185,000 miles. Should i do the Vent mod what do you guys think? I hunt some in the winter but don?t haul a boat a lot. Or just put a regular vent on it? Or leave it as is? I noticed it when I got under my truck to replace the oil in the rear end and noticed it was under compression when I opened it up. Side not of the 4.25 pints it is supposed to hold while i was squeezing the second quart (topping it off to 4 pints) it started over flowing acting like it was full(so roughly 3.8-3.9 pints). I figured it may be an air pocket or something but couldnt get anymore in it actual let it drain out the top for a while until it quit to keep form over filling it

yep thats it, but they forgot to replace the shipping plug with the actuall vent. I would definitely do the vent mod.

It happened to me, too, on my '07. I had the rear axle/diffy replaced at 30,000 miles. At about 140,000, I noticed the right rear axle seal leaking. Sure enough, the shipping plug was still there instead of the vent.

Well then, with that being said I think it's time I crawl under my '08 Titan and take a look at that diff. I know she's calling for a rebuild soon, but now I'm curious to know if it's been vented or sealed since inception. Which may not be the case as I just crossed the 100K mark with no diff issues.

Can anyone expand on what these vent mods are?

Wow that's crazy! Is that like a normal thing? Would you suspect that it been like that the entire life of the truck? I'm shocked I haven't blown a seal yet.
You may have - I would look really closely at the seals. On the other hand, a leaking seal, if it's just weeping, won't really hurt anything. I've had two of these trucks, both with weepers, and drove thousands of miles on them. Just keep an eye on the diff fluid once in a while. You might eventually contaminate the parking brake shoes if it is weeping.

That right there should be an automatic Nissan one-time replacement guarantee on a rear axle. That is common, and it's just damn stupid.

Well it's lasted 186k miles, couple more hours shouldn't kill it.
