2005 Axle Seal Leak

So my axle has been leaking for the last 5 years or so, but nissan wanted 3k to fix (I think they replace the whole rear end with a newer version on the 2005's) or maybe it was just the cost to replace both axles? Anyways the leak is pretty bad now and my entire rotor and rim is covered in diff fluid.

I guess this job requires some tools I don't have (a press) and sounds like allot of work so I'll probably have to have a shop do it. Anyways, can I get an aftermarket axle or do I have to buy an OEM axle to really solve the leak problem?

It took them many years to solve the issue but I think they did actually solve it finally? I had it replaced a few times before I just gave up when it started again out of warranty, but now I would like to get this fixed. Preferably for under 3k, as that's more than 1/2 the value of my truck I think?

You really have two options for doing this yourself. You can buy a preassembled axle shaft, which would preclude you needing a press. Or you could do the work, but take the shafts to a machine shop for pressing on the new bearings.

Or you could pay a shop to do it. But that will be the most expensive option, obviously.
My 05 leaked twice the first time at 56k miles and Nissan put a brand new $2800 axle under the truck. The replaced axle leaked at 115K and Nissan replaced the seals on the passenger side and then I did the axle vent kit myself. Now at 175k still no leaks and going strong. Check your axle vent to see if it's stuck closed and building inside pressure. I understand the early axles had axle tubes out of round is why Nissan replaced the whole axle over a leak. This is what I was told by Nissan when they replaced it.

That's most of it, but they re-designed the axle and the seals one year I'm thinking 2008, or 2009 but not sure on the year. So I would want to upgrade to that version to stop the leaks from coming back every 15k. I believe I have had 2 or axle leaks covered under warranty in the past and then I had the rear diff replaced at 28k (somewhere around there), but it started leaking again around 68k, just out of warranty. Nissan wanted like 3k to fix it, so I just let it leak and leak...

I did the axle vent mod many years ago. Didn't help my axle leak problem...

So do I need an entire new rear end or just upgraded axles? Which axles should I get and what year to solve the problem? Or are the later model axles not compatible with the 2006 rear diff (mine's a 2006 rear diff)?

There's so many different gear ratios etc I need to be sure whatever I get it will be compatible with my truck which is 4WD so gear ratios are important.

I'm very confused :(

I found this online http://www.carmonkeys.com/2008-NISS...nD0abcdGy82mDwFuhLEw0CHw8wX2dUKkqkaAunK8P8HAQ

I think a new one would cost more than my truck is worth at this point.

Nissan made a change in 08 with different seals and bearings a little larger I believe. The 08 and newer trucks still have leaks but not as frequent as the 04-06. Just make sure gear ratios are the same or you will have a issue.

Well if they still have leaks it might not be worth the upgrade then? Probably better off just getting the seal replaced then?
I bought the Timken SET10 Bearing set off amazon and picked up OEM seals from the local Nissan dealership and had a local rear end shop do the install.

Here's a link to the Timken Bearings:
