Hi. I have a 2005 King Cab that just rolled 150,000 miles.

I tow a 30 ft camper in the summer so i want to do a little maintenance on it.

I have a garage that will do the work if i provide the parts so i have a few questions.

I want to replace the engine coolant. How much does the Titan hold and can anyone recommend a good brand to go with since i have high mileage and tow a good amount of weight?

I also want to replace the transmission fluid, so same questions. How much does the Titan hold and can anyone recommend a good brand for high mileage truck and towing?

For 150,000 anything else you would have done for towing? I recently had a brake line replaced along with fluid and all struts.

I really appreciate all the help. I love my truck and hoping to keep it for many more years and miles!

I too pull a 30 footer with my 05. All that I mention is done DIY.

Each spring I replace the front and rear diff fluids. Do a full DOT 4 brake fluid replacement. Mic the pads and if any one is below 4mm replace all with new Yellow Pads from EBC. I also do a cross hatch cleaning of the rotors because I'm already there. If there's one pad that's 2mm thinner than the others, I replace the caliper. It doesn't hurt to replace the glides in the calipers annually .... cheap.

My odometer mileage is quite a bit different than yours since I only use my truck for towing, but I figure dropping the pan every other year to pull the filter screen and clean it. That's when I do a drain and fill. We don't go out west yet, so the tranny temp stays below 175, which is when ATF self destructs. I may get some heat for this because tranny fluid is a controversial topic, but any ATF that meets, by label affirmation, the specs for Matic-S......will work fine. That spec, which will be printed on the label of a synthetic ATF product is JASO 1A. Castrol makes a product called Import Multi-vehicle. This spec is used in Subaru, Toyota etc. Virtually all Japanese. The only difference with ATF made to this spec is packaging and price. I buy at Wally World. Rumor has it that Castrol Transmax (Import Multi-vehicle) is what is in Matic bottles at the dealer.

The only other thing I would suggest based on your truck's age and mileage is to replace the four O2 Sensors if they are original. Wideband should be replaced with spark plugs and narrowband (closest to the cat) at 35-50K miles. You will see an improvement in MPG and may prevent a converter catastrophe. As they age, they slow down in what they feed to the ECU and the mixture doesn't track as accurately.....becoming a source of raw fuel contamination of the cat guts. I also did a plug change at 90K and will do another if I still have this truck, when another 75K go on the Odometer.

Sorry to bum an old(ish) thread but I used the search feature.

You posted a link to the transmax fe which isn't available in the US. We have the transmax full synthetic multi-vehicle. The data sheet for the fe specifically states it's good for matic s specs, whereas the US version just says it's good for like all current nissan specs. Would you suppose that they're the same product, just marketed differently?

Reason I'm asking is that I'd like to do a flush when I install my oil cooler and bypass the radiator.

The multi vehicle isn't rated as "S"...only J on the labels that I've read. If you have an older truck that originally spec'd J, then it would be fine. If you have an S truck or just want the S, then you'll have to do a search at local auto supply to find what's available in your market. You might also look for Valvoline Maxlife Dex/Merc ATF, it's a full syn that is Matic S rated.
You have to dig into the labels and the manufacturer literature.....the multi-vehicle is rated as surpassing JASO-1A spec, which is the important specification..but as I said the labels I've read don't say Matic S on them. As far as if they are the same.....call Castrol support line and they'll give you some indication as to what they put in the bottle. Many Infiniti dealers use the Valvoline product. I would bet you'll find Nissan dealers doing the same.

Correct the standard multi-vehicle is only j rated but the full synthetic multi-vehicle just says use with all transmissions that require atf, next to nissan, on the data sheet. Idk how much I trust it. It's strange that the transmax multi-vehicle fe (non-US full synthetic) specifically states it's good in matic-s but the US version doesn't.

The valvoline is only a few cents more so I'll go pick up a few gallons of that and return the transmax I picked up yesterday.
