I switched over my 2005 T to the following:

I installed them in May, 2016 and haven't had any issues with them. I chose to go with the 8K version of them because I like the bright white when I driving. On mine, I didn't need anything other than what came with the order. I would recommend that if you're going to do it, to do both high and low beams at the same time. Basically, you'd have to do the same work twice and it was much easier to place the ballasts in the same location (just under the light assembly) and wire time them both down. I did place Velcro between them to been the metal ballast bodies from hitting each other.

I also opted to change out my fogs, too, to the Opt7 fog lights. No issues there either. They came out with new models of these that crank out more lumens and the design "they say" is more efficient. I can't tell how much is just marketing vs reality.

HID ≠ LED

We have some site sponsors who sell the LED bulbs for our trucks. They are in the vendor section and generally run decent sales on them.

If you want to go with HID, they can also supply those for you. The LED bulbs are obviously plug-n-play bulb swap, while the HID installation is a bit more involved than that.

Don't be the guy that puts HID's in your stock reflector (not made for HID) housings. Upgrade to projectors or go with LED's. I run LED's from retrosolutions (site sponsor) and have bought 7 or 8 sets of them for different vehicles. No fans, no ballasts, not a single complaint and they give a pretty much stock beam pattern. Make sure to adjust your headlights correctly after you swap bulbs as the LED's give off more light and I was blinding people.
