My Titan just started making this knocking noise but intermitently. Look at this video and tell me what you think. The dealer has not been able to reporoduce the noise, but thats probably because they havent even driven my titan one mile in an attempt to recreate the noise. I called Nissan consumer affairs yesterday still waiting to hear from them.

The engine is slightly noisy, esp at idle. yours sounds like something is wrong with it. Does it do it when it's warmed up or only from a cold start?

I just listened to your recording and that is a terrible knocking. All you should ever hear is very faint similar knocking sound, but 90% less than what I heard in your recording. I don't think what I just heard is a simple fix, good luck.

I read somewhere on this forum or the other titan site about adding a ground to the existing ground to eliminate an engine knock. My truck sometimes knocks but not always. I never did the fix, but quite a few people swore that it fixed their problem.

Does it sound the same on the right side? You might have a cracked exhaust manifold. I blew a header gasket in my old Ford one time and it sounded just like that.

That has helped some with a ticking noise, nothing like that knocking I heard in his video.

I'm pretty sure a cracked manifold would not sound like that. That sound he has is probably from the crankshaft.

My truck seams to make the knocking noise after a 10-15 mile drive (fully warmed up). The dealer checked the header / manifold for tightness and leaks. My truck did not have any leaks or loose bolts. I have a case number with Nissan consumer affairs. I will let you guys know what happens.

Bshort,

What's wrong with your 07 Titan which required them to replace your engine "Short Block" ?

Couldn't be that infamous "piston slap" that GM had some years back with their V8's?

That piston slap is pretty noisey, and was caused by the piston design. GM claimed that, though, noisey, it didn't cause any damage to the engines.

NO! I have about 30 pages of files with GM on that. After a seized motor and LOTs and LOTS of research found out cyl 7 or 8 (sorry been a while) is bored a fraction too big. To many motors and loss of $ to recall them all.
Mine is louder at idle when cold and through drivethroughs, etc. let us know what you find out plz
