I (and my mechanic apparently) need some help. I've got a '08 Titan I bought used 4 years ago with @175,000 miles. Almost a year ago the timing broke and I got all that took care of. My usual mechanic retired due to health reasons so I was recommended to a new guy. He seems very knowledgeable but is a little slow. Anyway, this past October it began to run like it was misfiring again. The same way it did before the timing went out. I took it to another mechanic closer to home that my preacher referred me to so he could hook up the diagnostic tool. He said it was showing multiple misfire codes. After telling him the history he suggested I take it back to the 1st mechanic because the parts should be under warranty still. So I dropped it off with him right before Thanksgiving.
He originally thought it was an oil pressure issue that was throwing the timing off but the oil pressure tested good. Then he thought it was the phasers, but those turned out to be good. Changed out some O-rings, sensors, etc... Still not fixed! Now he's back to the oil pressure, thinking it's not getting enough pressure to the top of the motor. It has had a constant knocking/clicking sound for @ 2 years. When it first started I was sure it was low on oil because it sounds just like knocking valves but it wasn't. I'm not a mechanic but I know a little and keep up with the routine maintenance myself, for the most part. I change the oil and oil filter at the scheduled times, the air filter, brakes, the simple stuff.
The truck runs, it just skips/jumps especially when you give it gas. It's been 2 months and still not fixed.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? .
