I assume hes talking about tailgate damping?? If so all 05 and newer have it. Tailgate damping cushions on the way down and assists on the way up.

My tailgate is so light that I can lift it with two fingers, try that with a undamped tailgate it wont work unless your really strong lol

Oh yeah, well I can do it with one finger!!! LOL :D

I have become so used to the Titan's gate, that I've many times opened other gates on friend's trucks, only to let them go slamming down---OOOPS!!! Then you have the satisfaction of bragging about the Titan's tailgate assist!! Bwaaaahaaaahaaaha

Any easy way to swap '05+ hardware to an '04 to get the tailgate damping?

We compared trucks w/ and w/o at the Jersey meet. Doesn't look like an easy swap. Would require some hacking on the bed, along with some other modifications. The torsion assist is the way to go for 04 models.

My chebbie has the easy lift option but it is no where near that of the titans or the tundras. I had to take it to the dealer and verify it was on because it doesnt help that much. Or maybe it does and the tailgate is made outof 3/4 in steel.

It's funny how much I take that feature for granted... Just the other day I opened a buddie's tailgate and it just felt awful... the heavy 'clunk' as it comes down and then having to put down everything in your hand just to put the thing up. When I was buying my truck I was about to take an 04 but when I saw the gate assist and the auto rear window I had to have an 05.... I'm glad I did.

Take the right rear taillight out. The piston is behind it inside the rear fender. There's nothing in the tailgate.

I just went outside and took some pictures of my 2005. Hope it helps. My rear axle vent setup is also pictured.

You can see a difference between the 3rd and 4th picture. Third shows tailgate up, 4th shows tailgate down. Notice that the cylinder is extended when it's up and retracted when it's down.

There really isn't anything on the tailgate itself. It's all incorporated into the bed.

Warrior, HVT is talking about the new 08's. Hmmmm... Not aware that they changed this. I'll have to look into it. That IS interesting if it's now integrated into the tailgate.

So he's saying that the 08's DO NOT look like the first image that I attached above???

Interesting indeed.
