2008 Titan SE 2wd bed

I had a 2001 Sport Trac before the Titan and the bed of the truck never shook or made noises going over bumps. I recently took my Titan into service and explained that the bed of the truck has excessive movement and makes a clanging noise when I go over bumps. The service guy said he torqued all the bolts and checked the bumpers that cushion the bed and everything is working properly. It looks and sounds really cheap going down the road. I love the truck, but it seems to me that the bed should not be doing this. Can someone help out with this topic? Thanks for your time.

I put a tailgate seal on mine when I installed the bed cover. There seems to be excessive play on the tailgates of these trucks. Adding the weatherstripping seemed to get rid of the noise. It might be worth a shot.:dunno:

Welcome to TT also.
The bed should not make noises. Sounds like you need to take the service advisor for a demo ride.
Also check to make sure your spare tire is tight. Mine was loose and made thud noises when i would go over bumps from when the tire would hit the bottom of the truck. Like blavis said too, the tailgates also have some play which can cause some noise.
Does it have a plastic bedliner? My Tundra had plastic liner that flapped around in the breeze and made all kind of racket...
Thanks for the quick replies. I don't believe it is in the tailgate. The bed moves from side to side and sounds like it is hitting the frame or some metal to metal. A solid truck like they claim it is, should not be doing this in my opinion. I trust the Nissan dealer that I take it to and don't want to be an asshole, but I am not happy with this issue. Anymore ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I do not have a bedliner yet. The tire could be a possibility, but it sounds more like the bed banging the frame. Thanks!

That's not even an opinion, it should not be doing that. I have an '04 with 50,000 miles on it with no bed shake or noise. Take it back or have another dealer look at it. FWIW, I've driven a 2008 enough to know that they are much tighter and solid to begin with than an '04. Good luck and get your truck fixed.

That is abnormal. Like mentioned above^ Take your SA on a demo ride.
I recall that my '05 made a bunch of noise going over speed bumps. In my case, it was noisy shocks and not a loose bed. You might also check the gas tank to make sure it is properly secured. It may be rattling around and hitting the bed. Maybe you can have someone shake the truck from side to side while you lie under it looking for loose items or excessive movement by something.
Thanks folks! I just don't want to cause any conflicts with my dealer. I only have three in the area and this is the best by far.
I had a 2001 Sportrac also. My Titan makes more noise than my Sportrac ever did. I think my extra noise is the extender and my bedliner. Yours might be something more, just letting you know that mine is noisier also.
I am taking it in Thursday to have them look at it again. I took my friend down the road in it Saturday and he thinks it may be the tailgate. I will give updates if I find what it is making the noise.
Do you have Utiltrak? Does it just do it on accelerations and stops? Mine bangs too and it took me a while to figure out that it's the black rubber covers on the ultitack in the bed sliding back and forth on hard starts and stops...
thanks for the reply Clancy, but I have nothing in the bed right now. I hit a manhole yesterday and it just sounded awful. I can't take noises like that or squeaks, it will drive me crazy!
I can see the bed shake on my 08 in the side view mirror when driving on semi-rough paved roads and smooth dirt roads. I am not talking about rough roads at all, not holes or patches just typical old florida roads. Is this normal? What does it take for bed shake to be visable to you guys?

Look in the side mirror and pay attention at the gap between the cab and the bed.

How about removing the tailgate and seeing if it still does it?
Exocet, that is a great idea on the noise! I am really concerned about the shake in the bed though. I saw two Titans today going over a bumping road. One Titan's bed did not move a bit, the other looked like the bed and tailgate were going to rattle off. It looked really cheap and I know that is what mine looks like going down the road and it pisses me off!

As for you Ericgst, I am glad you are concerned and see the same thing I am seeing. The bed should not move like that, I don't care what anyone says. I have watched Chevy, Ford, Dodge and Toyota trucks since I noticed this on my Titan and they do not do that at all. I hope I get some resolution to this problem, because the Titan is badass compared to the other trucks.

Keep in touch guys if you come up with a solution to the problem.:flame:
