2012 Pro-4x Replacement Shocks/Strut Options

Hi All,

Background:
I have been a lurker here for a while and I know this topic has been beat to death but I would like to better understand my options for replacement shocks/struts. Currently have 106k miles on my mostly stock 2012 Pro-4x. No Lift, no large tires, etc
Looking at either the Bilstein 5100 or the Rancho 9000 series. My local shop gave me a quote of $1750 for the Rancho 9000s installed and $1550 for the Bilstein 5100s installed.
Personally that seems really expensive for replacing the shocks/struts. The shop claims that they have to use "different" versions of the Bilstein 5100s or Rancho 9000s because this is a Pro-4x model. Personally I think the shop may be marking up the hardware by 150%+.

Question:
What Bilstein 5100 or Rancho 9000 parts should I be planning to purchase to replace the stock suspension?
The truck is driven 98% highway and 2% offroad on gravel, sand, mud, etc. I am not necessarily looking for any leveling. Want to improve handling while maintaining ride comfort.

Thanks!

Your getting bent over with those prices. Go with bilstein 5100s. And if they charge more than 300 to install then go somewhere else.

This is just an example. I know a lot of guys here use tap auto
Thanks!

Is that kit all that should be required hardware wise?
Can I re-use the existing pro-4x springs on the front with those Bilstein 5100 struts?
Yes and yes. I'm not the best at working on trucks but I did my rear shocks in about an hour. There are plenty of videos on how to do it. The fronts I had a local shop do them for 300 including an alignment.

For that kind of money they better be putting on coil overs or something. I have the 5100's in the front and I think they are a vast improvement over stock. If you put bills all around your probably looking at about $500 for the shocks and struts. $1000 for install is crazy, even if you aren't mechanically inclined, you could do the rear. The front will require a spring compressor and you can reuse all the hardware (Springs, washers, ect). Auto part stores rent out spring compressors, they work, but be careful as this can be dangerous if not used with care. I would buy the parts yourself and find a place willing to do it for a fair price.

Thank you everyone!
I ordered the parts from Amazon prime for $360 and they will be here Monday morning!
Found a reputable local shop to install and align for $320. Almost $1000 less than the shop that gave me the complete quote. They were charging 200%+ markup on parts ($1150 for the Bilstein B8 5100s), $380 for install and another $100 for alignment...what a rip!
Good deal!

CngTitan, any feedback on your Billstein 5100? I might be in the same boat (truck?!) with a potential front right shock issue. Wondering if you would do it again and how they handle (stock shocks on my 2015 Pro-4X don't do well on washboard).

Oh and if your remember please let me know who your Amazon seller was.

Thanks for any feedback. Happy trucking.
