:devil:Suggest you park the truck on an incline towards the dealership and see if they take the issue seriously.
So far so good. No issues. Still don't know what repairs were made or parts were replaced because they still haven't got the radio in yet so the work order is not complete. We've been waiting for the radio for over 2 weeks.Did the problem show up again? What parts were replaced exactly?
Damn that sucks man. I was hoping you'd be satisfied now, but to be honest, I'd kick this one to the curb and get something else. I agree the new titans are unique looking and needlessly too big, but that's just me. When you can, let us know what didn't fix it last time. Maybe whatever was replaced is failing prematurely from something else?Maybe they'll give me a good deal on a new one but I have to say I think the new ones are butt ugly.
If they can come back with a definitive answer on what EXACTLY has failed then I see no reason to get rid of it. The problem is they just start throwing parts at it without actually testing the parts that were pulled out. So it can be hard to say which part was the problem. The hard question is should I sell it as soon as I get it back or should I give it a while to see if the problem is actually solved. As of now they are 0 for 3. I'd prefer to sell it with a clear-ish conscience.
Maybe they'll give me a good deal on a new one but I have to say I think the new ones are butt ugly.
I agree, but they are 0 for 3 right now, so I'm not real confident that they actually know exactly what failed or have the capability to figure it out. I think vehicles have gotten more complicated than the ability of service centers to fix them. Every time we take it in they seem completely baffled. And each time they say it is fixed, the same problem crops back up within days.If they can come back with a definitive answer on what EXACTLY has failed then I see no reason to get rid of it.
Like I say, I have no idea what they have done so far. I only know that they told my wife that they were going to 'talk to Nissan' about it.The problem is they just start throwing parts at it without actually testing the parts that were pulled out. So it can be hard to say which part was the problem.
I'm not sure what protections I will have since I bought it used, in another state, from a Chevy dealership. I did not buy it from the local Nissan dealership that is stuck with it now because it is under warranty.I've read a couple threads on the lemon law process and it sounds like the dealer is on the hotseat if they can't fix it. The manufacturer has a tendency to get real pissed off at dealers that can't fix problems that lead to a lemon law buyback.
No offense to any Nissan mechanics on here, but don't you think the mechs working on "problem" vehicles like yours would utilize all resources like forums for guidance and ideas for things to check? I'm just saying, its all public on the net, some of these ideas "valve control assy" had been mentioned. I hope the new trans works...although I have my doubts. My wife dropped it off. They gave her a loaner without question. She asked them if we needed to get in contact with Nissan and they said no, that they would handle it.
She asked them for a bill for what had been done so far and they said they could not print it out since the job was not complete. (???) They gave her a copy of the mechanic's description which is mostly gibberish:
"replaced shifter" then "also cable was broken to shifter so replaced it to".
Next trip: "tcm check continuity between range switch and tcm connector all term has continuity procedure states replace" then "replaced valve control assembly"
If the problem is electronic and outside the transmission you just got a free transmission! The dealership has talked with Nissan who has recommended replacing the whole transmission which they are going to do this week. So two things seem clear to me: 1) they are throwing parts at the problem and 2) they don't know what the problem is. I sure am hoping this will do the trick.
No, I would not expect that. The mechanics are busy, busy, busy. The service writer on the other hand might be looking stuff up outside the Nissan domain. No offense to any Nissan mechanics on here, but don't you think the mechs working on "problem" vehicles like yours would utilize all resources like forums for guidance and ideas for things to check? I agree. Or a position sensor of some sort. However, at times when you go to shift it into Park it does not want to go all the way in. The shift lever will go into the slot but it does not snap into place and the dash indicator shows it not in any gear at all. Whether that is a linkage issue or a transmission issue I could not say but it seems that either way there is more to it than that. Not sure why replacing the whole tranny would solve this but apparently that is what Nissan has told them to do.The fact it will not start without running the shifter through the gears tells me it is a linkage problem.
