Nissan has announced what the gasoline V8 engine option will be in the new Titan and Titan XD.

A 5.6-liter V8 will be available making 390 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque, improvements of 73 hp and 16 lb-ft of torque. Nissan calls is the ‘Endurance’ V8.

Nissan says that this is an all-new engine which only shares displacement with the previous Titan. The 2016 version of the 5.6-liter V8 features variable valve event and lift technology, direct injection and four-valves per cylinder. Throttle response is said to be improved thanks to the new valve technology, while a new piston design allows for a high compression ratio and more performance.

When paired with the Titan XD, the engine will be linked with a seven-speed automatic that features adaptive shift control and automatic rev-matching downshifts.

Nissan expects fuel economy to be improved, though no specific targets were mentioned.

Gasoline-powered Nissan Titan XD Crew Cab models go on sale in Spring of 2016, while the standard Titan is expected to debut next summer.

Wonder how the gasser weighs in. If it's close to being as heavy as the XD all the xtra hp/torque will basically be a wash wouldn't it?
Not enough that UPRev wouldn't overcome.

The gasser XD will be a couple hundred pounds less. The regular Titan gasser will be much lighter I'm sure especially since its using the same platform as the current Titan with some minor updates.

I wouldn't be surprised if they underrated this engine, to prop up the diesel sells.

From what I have seen, 3.36 gears are standard, so guessing at least the current 9300 pounds towing capacity, beefier transmission and rear end would easily improve those numbers.

^^^Improving the standard Titan tow ratings would make the XD even more pointless. Carry over the current tow ratings, insert a Stout rear end, 6+ speeds, and revised exhaust manifolds and I'd be in even if the body was the same! I the non-XD is going to be a hit, it needs to be to carry the weight of the XD abomination.

The XD will tow 2k more than the gas version, also MPG's would be significantly better on a diesel, especially when towing.

Average XD weight reduction (curb weight/base models) from diesel to gas version = 700lbs.
Example XD SL trim:
4×2 diesel 6876 lbs
4x2 Gas 6177 lbs
4x4 diesel 7153 lbs
4x4 GAS 6448 lbs

I think that the diesel exhaust system weighs about 300 lbs....

True, at least when compared to the current Titan. If they new non-XD sees improved tow ratings, the additional capacity that the XD offers is marginalized. The increased capital costs of the XD and more expensive price of diesel put us back in no man's land. Around 14,500# would have been a better tow rating for the 4x4 XD.

Yep I agree the gasser has the framework to be a very solid truck. If it gets a beefier rear end and tranny
and stronger exhaust mani. this could be a huge win for Nissan.. Do you know if Uprev is working on the
software to E-tune the new gasser? which is just the old QX80...Infinity...

Would not buy the XD with a gas engine, that seems dumb, it will weight 6500lbs..

I would wait for the half ton next gen with the vk56vd, because its going to be built off the current titan platform using some XD components, and revisions to body and interior.

The reason the XD is ugly is to house the cummins 5.0 and all its cooling etc... The titan XD has aisin 6spd with 3.92 gears, does 0-60 in 9.4 secs or whatever and weights over 7000lbs... umm nope.

The half ton will be badass if they keep the weight around 5300-5800 in crew cab models and decked out pro4x versions.

The VK56VD for the titan is an underated version of the other VK56VD found in the M56 and Patrol and QX80. Short of different intake and exhaust manifold designs.

If you want a good comparison check out some 0-60 vids of the QX80 which weights like 5800lbs without driver and they pull 0-60 in under 6.0 sec.
