That transmission TSB update thread is quite long and I have been following it for about 6 months. Having posted a few times myself of having the same exact problem.

Funny enough though I have found a pretty simple workaround that completely solves the problem. I simply shift manually to 6th gear and my truck completely changes shift, power, throttle response...everything. It's like I am driving a more powerful version of my old 2004 Titan!

No more sluggish acceleration. No more fluttering at 35 mph. No more confusing shift up and down on inclines.

Anyone see the same thing?!!

Tried pushing the Tow mode and it doesn't do the same thing. It will change gear ratios maybe a bit but still try to shift to 7th gear which seems to me to be what the big problem is. Whole different experience if I just go manual 6th gear.

Maybe it is my rig though... believe I have had the TSB Flash C.

I will try that tommorow....so you just shift manually to 6th or shift from 1 to 6 while moving?

On the freeway in 6th there is about a 250 rpm difference between 6 and 7th, from 0 to 70 it shifts normally but once you slow down to under 50 its all over the place.
I leave it in D for freeway. But in 6th for city or other lower than 65 driving I am not seeing the same thing at all. Completely shifts smooth and accurate with lots of acceleration and throttle response. Just like my old 2004 Titan LE.

Maybe it is my TSB C flash?

I don't see any difference in shift patterns putting it in "6th" in stop and go driving. I don't know why you would either. Varying transmission operating temperature and its effects on torque converter lock up and shift patterns is a more likely explanation for any differences you experienced.

I noticed on mine that the shift shocks (bouncing tach and can feel it a little) after shifts, but doesn't seem to happen much until I'm maybe 20-30 min into my commute. The tach fluttering at 1k-2k rpm tach is more pronounced/often then too. Explains why it seemed ok on the test drive where I only saw a little 40-50mph tach flutterm

I currently have 22,000 kms on my 2017 Titan - had both the ECM and TCM update done at 11,000 kms. The truck operates a lot better than before the updates (not perfect but better). As has been said, it takes the truck a while to learn your driving habits and starts to adapt accordingly. I'm going to try your idea and see for myself

I have experienced no shifting problems with my '17 Titan SV in the first 5,000 miles. Sometimes it feels reluctant to downshift until I lean into it, but I figure that's by design for fuel economy. I have not requested any of the flashes.
I haven't had any shifting problems and I'm approaching 5000 miles this month as well. My fuel economy has been fairly impressive averaging 18.8 mpg. A couple tanks I averaged more than 20 mpg.

I have 12000 miles on mine and the only time I had any kind of hiccup in my tranny was a slight flutter like it was having trouble up shifting a couple of miles after I started going once. The tranny was still cold so I just thought it was that since every vehicle I have had in the past has cold tranny hiccups. Haven't had a problem since. I sure hope that I don't start having these problems that everyone is talking about.

I'm finding that on my replacement 2017 Titan, the shifting up is much better. It's downright silky smooth, especially when compared to the lemon of a 2017 it replaced!

Only 1,200 miles so far but the problem now seems to be mainly when driving in the city or at less-than-highway speeds under 45mph.

Letting off the gas in the lower gears or coming to a stop will cause a bit of a clunk, such as on a 3-2 downshift but more prominently on the 2-1 downshift when coming to a stop.

I may be a little sensitive/OCD about these things as I'm sure most of us here are, but even my passenger the other day could hear and feel the clunk on that 2-1 downshift.

Like most other issues with this transmission, it seems like it just doesn't want to go into the correct gear for the speed/situation. Almost like it's trying to decide what the best thing to do is.

I'm hoping, like everyone else with low miles, that it gets better with time and the adaptive learning explanation.

Fingers crossed!

At least we aren't the only ones in this boat. Seems like all the manufacturers are having some reports of transmission/shifting issues in their light duty trucks; online anyways.
