Can the rear axle seal be changed out? I ask this because the dealership says you have to replace the whole axle. $1200.00

In the world of dealer repairs they don’t want to lose time changing parts when the can change the assembly. When I did my Frontier’s seals and bearings it was a bit of time to cut them off and press the new ones on. The dealer wants to cut out the wasted time and get to the next vehicle. They don’t care about who get handed the bill.
When I had a bad u-joint on my way from NJ to Florida I had to go to Nissan to have it done and they tried to sell me a whole drive shaft assembly for about $1,300. I turned them down and the joint and carrier bearing was $450 and I was good again except the “tech” whined the whole time about how tough it was to take part.

Because my warranty expires in August and if the passenger side starts leaking it might not happen until after the warranty expires. The mechanic said if one’s leaking then the other will start sooner or later. The cause was the vent valve on the housing being stopped up and the pressure build up is what caused the leak but Nissan won’t replace the other side as it hasn’t started to leak. I’m just going off what he told me but apparently he’s seen this before. He did try to convince the Service Advisor that the other side would need to be replaced.
